I am currently on 6.16.211, I tend to get bored at work and randomly check for a system update, the last time I tried was only a few weeks ago I believe and it said "Up to date!", well I tried again today and it said that there was an available update, I tried, it "Installed" and rebooted, then said "Update Failed!". I cleared my cache and I am trying again, the update is for 98.72.16 XT1912... I never felt like adding anything special or changing the software, I have liked this phone since I bought it and did not want to jeopardize breaking it. If this update continues to fail what should I do?

This is the Jelly Bean update that is currently rolling out to all Droid Razr phones. It should work, but if not you may have to clear the cache again and do a factory reset before doing the install.

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it was the Ice Cream Sandwich or not. Not that I really know the difference, I just haven't seen the need to pull the old tricks out of the bag for this phone I love it the way it came. I tried clearing the cache and updating via WiFi Only/Airplane mode and same message. I guess if I get really bored tomorrow I will factory wipe and try again, I just don't want to lose all my Apps and stuff if it happens to fail again .

Thanks, I have tried everything besides a clean wipe/factory reset with no luck... I am contemplating it, I just do not want to lose progress on my games and silly stuff like that

Updates come over the Verizon network, having it on wifi only and airplane mode will not work to download it. Have you checked the internal storage space available on the device?

Yes, I have about 1.75gb free on my internal disk and about 4.8gb free on my external 32gb disk. I don't know if there is a way to manually flash the new update by downloading it separately, I do have experience with flashing the android OS onto tablets and other devices. I will not do anything that will void my contract however, I have been there and it is not pretty lol.

You can go to droidrzr.com and they will help you figure it out. Matt Groff has created a utility you can use to download and install the update.

I can find nothing on droidrzr.com that even remotely addresses this.
