How do you get rid of the swipe when the screen locks. all I want to do is push the button to turn screen back on, not turn on then swipw ?

If you have Widget Locker installed, you can check the option to have the Back button unlock the device. There may be other apps that have similar type options. But, as techwhiz says, in the stock app there is no way other than swipe.

Install "NoLock" from the market
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyL...., it can suppress the lock screen so you wont see it except after restart but after you unlock the first time after reboot the lock screen wont be seen again until another reboot.
I used it on my Droid X without issues...

u realize this feature is "idiot proofing phones" sorry no offense; trying to do so makes phone more libel to do unwanted actions being in an active state: inadvertently pushing buttons and whoala dialing Bejing or some odd thing happening. "K-I-S-S" lessens your sorrows.

I alway felt this way also but I have learned that some users perfer to disable the slider, I disable it because I perfer Widget Locker myself.
