Have you tried forcing a sync under Accounts in your phone settings? Do you have background data on or allowed?
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
Yes, in the "Accounts & Sync" screen the "sync circle" is green, earlier it was white. If I click on that account there is a white circle. Earlier the white circle had an exclaimation point by it and at the bottom of the screen it said sync was having a problem but should be back in a minute. I'm still waiting. No message now, just the white circle.
Go to Settings, Accounts & Sync. Select your GMail account and it should tell you when it last sync'd. You can force it by turning sync off then back on. For what it's worth, I don't think my GMail sync'd since yesterday either. I logged into the web and there were emails that haven't made it to my device yet.
Well, it started working about 10am this morning (after 30 hours down). I pushed the sync button and it caught up.
I had done everything you suggest, turned the phone off several times, turned off wifi, etc.
I hope this is not going to be a regular thing.
Thanks, everyone, for the responses.

Well I sent a 'Test' email from my work email to GMail about 5 hours ago and it showed up in Gmail on the internet immediately, but has not shown up on my device. I went into the device settings and turned sync off then on again...nada. Went into the account and told it to 'sync now'...still nothing. Hmmm. All other email accounts are working fine.
My calendar continued to sync as well. My mail was down for 30 hours. Hope yours doesn't take that long.
I just pushed the sync button at the bottom of the mail screen and it started working again (after I had tried all the rest).
I have no new ideas. Good luck.
If you find anything new, please let us know.
Well when I left work and went off Wi-Fi (Smart Actions turns on Wi-Fi turns off data) my data turned on, I got all my Gmails. Go figure.
