GSM Issues

Hello, I have a Droid Razr XT912 running the Jellybean update and for some reason I cannot connect to a gsm network. I understand global gsm capabilities were enabled on the Ice Cream Sandwich update but whenever I pop in a local SIM from where i'm from it, will not connect. I'm from Guam by the way. So my question is how can I get my phone to work with a local carrier? Thanks in advance.

Good Morning droid671! I want you to be able to take advantage of the global capabilities of your device! Do you still have an active account with us? Did you have the opportunity to contact us prior to leaving for your trip? You can reach global support at 908-559-4899 from an alternate line.

Sincerely,

No I do not have an active account with Verizon Wireless. I never had one, I actually bought the phone from someone else. So is there a way to have the phone unlocked or just get it to work on a local carrier?

Thanks for the reply Droid671.  At this time we are only able to unlock devices that are currently active on a Verizon Wireless account.  I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.  I would recommend trying to return the phone from the person you bought it from if at all possible.

As you suggest, with the ICS update the phone should be unlocked.   However, recent Moto phones apart from the Bionic has a block that prevents the use of GSM in (at least) the mainland US.  Don't know if that also extends to Guam.

Are you getting an error message (apart from "This SIM comes from an unknown source", which is harmless)?  Do you see any signal but just can't use it, or something else.

I do not get any signal what so ever and apart from the sim from unknown source message, I get a network error saying no gsm network found would you like to switch to global or something like that. I've also tried using the global option but still cannot get the phone to connect. It seems that the block extends to US protectorates too. Any advice?

The rep already told you that the phone can not be unlocked because you're not a current Verizon customer and you should return the phone to the person you bought it form and get a refund.
