I believe that android isn't able to sync with facebook contacts anymore. This happened in one of the Android updates. It took away some privileges from Facebook. Facebook needs to update their app to make it possible.

We want you to fully enjoy all of your apps on your Droid Maxx Carolyn! Have you tried uninstalling the Facebook app and readding it? It should ask you if you want to sync your contacts at that point. In addition, you can also try using the merge feature from the contacts app itself.
•
From a home screen, select People (located at the bottom).
If unavailable, navigate: Apps > People .
•
From the All contacts tab (located at the top), select a contact.
•
Select Menu (located in the upper right).
•
Select Edit.
•
Select Menu .
•
Select Join or Separate.
If the device is functioning well with all the other functions and apps, please be aware this may be specifically linked to Facebook, in which case our control is limited.

I also just got a Droid Maxx and am having the same problem. I had a Verizon Tech with an S4 look at it to see if she could see the problem and she compared her settings to mine. She found that when you go into Facebook and look at the App Settings there and scroll all the way down to the bottom under Chat Heads she had options she could set for Messenger Settings. My phone doesn't have that. She said that is where she would allow linking the two. So... Could this possibly by why its not working and will this be resolved? Thanks

I don't believe that has anything to do with the ability to sync Facebook contacts. Like I said earlier, I believe Google made changes to Android which required Facebook to make changes on their end to comply with their terms. Facebook never made the changes, thus no ability to make this work unless you are on an earlier Android version which doesn't have the issue.

How do you, as a support specialist for Verizon not know something so simple as this:
Facebook contacts will no longer sync with the Android Contacts app [on Android OS 4.1 and later].
The Android Contact list is built to provide data portability, and Facebook provides contact data that cannot be exported from the device.
Facebook contacts can still be accessed on the phone through the Facebook app.
While we cannot guarantee or warranty a third-party application, some owners have reported success syncing Facebook contacts using Ubersync and Haxsync.

So it's not a Motorola, or Droid, or Facebook app issue (clear cache, really?!) it's that Android removed the function after Android 4.1!!

Yes, I wish the OP would mark an answer so that others won't have to wade through all the discussion. I agree that it is really silly that Verizon customer support would not keep up on this information. You don't know how many times I do not rely on their help because it usually involves them reading through a manual to help you. "Have you hard reset the device? Have you pulled the battery?" Usually the same stuff from every support department though.
There was a recent issue with iPhones because of the iMessaging service. I called them up and wanted to know if there was anything wrong with the messaging on my wife's iPhone. Even though I already knew there was something wrong with Apple's end, I still expect them to be aware of these issues.

I don't believe that's the functionality we were looking for. That app doesn't provide the ability to update contacts with Facebook info (pictures, phone numbers, etc.). At least it didn't for me. I believe it allows FB Messenger to get your contact information for use in its own application. I've had the app installed for a while and it has never updated my contacts with new information.
