Droid Razr unable to hear or be heard without using speaker

I have not seen a resolution to the problem of not being able to hear phone calls and callers not hearing my voice unless I use the speaker. This has been going on for several months and is embarrassing having others hearing complete 2 way conversations in order to communicate. I have reset with no change in issue.

Could you have a bad speaker? That might be only fixable with a replacement or going to Motorola for repair.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I suppose I could have a bad speaker. Trying to find a fix myself but may have to pursue that route.

I've seen on other threads where folks have pressed on the speaker and it started working again.  A temp fix I'm sure, but if it works for a while ...

If it's your outer Speaker the one on the back of your Razr the Fix that Tiki was suggesting by pressing it Gently can sometimes realign it and get it Working again but if it's the Ear speaker then there is Little you can do) With the phone itself but you do have a Few choices

  1. If you have one You can use a Small Bluetooth Boom Speaker as A Speaker Phone)
  2. If you have a Bluetooth Headset you can use that Option!  I use my B.H. all the Time instead of using the Ear speaker on the phone..
  3. 3rd option if you have a Pair of Wired Headsets you can use them if the Headset Jack is Working to answer and to make Calls if the Headsets have the function button included in the Headset Most of them Do

So even though it may sound bleak as that speaker is DEAD with these other Options you can still use your Phone!  But I understand if you want to pursue replacing it.. Good Luck With your Choice you Decide on..

Here's the Mini Boom Speaker I was referring to:. This one is Made by  "Logitech"  and has the Speaker phone Function..

Thank you. Today, as I was running and listening to my music with the earbuds it occurred to me that I could use the Bluetooth. So, yes, it is the ear speaker and I will use that method. In reality, most of my communication is via text or email so it is just an aggravation.

Shananaruns, we can get to the bottom of this issue and make sure that you have a working phone. This sounds like a hardware issue and not a software issue that can be fixed by an update. Are you still within your 1 year warranty? Does your phone have any physical or liquid damage?

One thing that puzzles me is you cannot hear the person on the other end nor can they hear you.  The microphone and earpiece are on opposite ends of the phone.  Have you tried running your phone in Safe mode to make sure a downloaded app is not the culprit?  A factory reset?
