Can I stop text notifications for specific contacts?

I have a few people who text me that I don't want to be notified. How do I stop notifications for specific people. If that isn't possible I am ok blocking them entirely from texting, but don't know how to do that either.

AFAIK, there isn't a way to turn off text notifications for specific contacts.  If you block them via your on-line MyVerizon account (look for the red Block Calls and Text button under I Want To ...), it also will block their calls.  The blocks will remain in place for 90 days, but you can reblock them.

THanks.  That sure would be a nice feature.  Shouldn't be too hard to program.  When a text is received, it looks at the list of blocked contacts within the phone itself and blocks the text or blocks the notifications but posts the text.  Seems simple to me.

You can try this following suggestion since I think it did turn off the notifications for the contact when I had it set for one.

Set up the contact to go straight to voicemail.

When I had this set, I wasn't getting text message notifications from the contact I had set to go to voicemail.

I knew you could send calls to voice mail, but haven't used that feature, so wasn't aware that it would block text notifications as well.  But now that you mention it and my coffee is starting to kick in, it makes sense. 

To the OP:  there's also apps in Google Play that you can use; I haven't tried any, so have no recommendations.

I use GO SMS to send group messages to my soccer team and it has a 'Black List' function that works well for blocking text messages from specific senders.
