I know this subject has appeared many times, which means that lots of subscribers have run into the problem. Namely, calls going directly to voice mail without ringing. I also know that Verizon is not the only service provider that has the problem. That having been said, my contract is with Verizon so my focus is with them and how they handle the issue. Yes, there can be what I will call "operator error", such as inadvertently setting up "call forwarding". For many folks however (myself included) its not a setup issue or a mechanical problem with the phone. The problem developed on its own, is sporadic in that some calls ring through and others do not, and the situation is not area code specific. At any rate I still have the problem but more importantly I believe Verizon knows at this point that there is an issue and is not coming clean about whats going on and why ? For that matter, many of the carriers are not being forthright in acknowledging that something is not performing properly. Perhaps its a capacity issue or tower issues that they cannot control. I believe that there is a lot at stake here, as the inability to provide consistent service could effectively be a valid basis for penalty free cancellation of contracts. Not that customers are seeking to drop their service, but they should have the freedom to do so if the provider is having difficulties. Anyone thoughts on how to best address the situation ?

Hi Elron!
I want you guys to get all of your incoming calls! Let's look into this. It's true that sometimes a customer can inadvertently activate call forwarding to another number, but moreover I'd like to ask if this is an issue that you have in a specific location or in all different areas? Do you notice any pattern with this? Please share some details so I can help out.
Thank you!

I recently received a call from a very knowledgeable Verizon representative in technical support. I can tell from the things that he said, that technically he was a much higher support level than I usually get. (you know how it is, support calls start at the bottom and have to be referred to perpetually higher levels of expertise). So first the good news - my problem is resolved. The bad news is that the solution took about 5 minutes and was a very easy fix which in a perfect world could have been suggested by the very first people I talked to. The correction involved deleting the problem phone numbers from my devise. Specifically clearing text messages, call history, contact info involving the phone numbers that kept getting routed to VM. Then I shut my phone down, wait a few minutes then restart it. Lastly I askerd the contacts whose numbers were not getting thru, to initiate a call to me. Walla - the problems was solved. The phone number identification process was restored.
The fact is that in many cases, it is impossible to determine what caused the original corruption to begin with. Once a cell call is initiated, it travels to towers, over land connections, switching units, etc. Things get botched up. There is nothing to say I won't experience such a problem again, and there is nothing any provider can do to prevent it. As far as they have come, there still is a long way to go where wireless services technology is concerned. Shutting your phone down at night or at least every few days is a good idea. One other point worth sharing for the benefit any subscribers who see this post. Your voice calls all use 3g service. 4g only comes into play for data.
