Battery Life

So I have read these forums and have kept a close eye on certain things discussed in regards to my problem. I have done everything suggested from Verizon's site and others, in order to extend the life of my Droid Razr Maxx HD and at best I am able to get 12 hours of use out of it. My friend has the same phone but has had it for several months and he is able to get 2 days out of it. I have had mine for 2 weeks, allowing it to drain to capacity before charging it and using it throughout the day only for data (facebook etc), no streaming of any sorts (netflix etc), no phone calls and still am finding it dying extremely quick. Are there any more suggestions or do I have a defective phone?

First off, if you go into SETTINGS | BATTERY , what are your top users of battery, and what is the percentage? Maybe you have a bad app, maybe you are checking your email too often, maybe your screen brightness is not set to "auto", or you have it staying on too long? All of these could do it. Quite honestly, the first week or so that I had mine, I played with it so much that the battery life was not much past what your is. After a bit, I quit "playing" with the phone so often, and the battery life extended to more than just 1 day.

Check your battery usage first, and let us know what is using it up..

I have it set to auto and use an app killer regularly. The only thing using

up my battery it says is my screen. Its timed out at a minute. I've had

mine for more than a week.

First piece of advice. STOP KILLING YOUR APPS WITH THE TASK KILLER.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Why do you use a task killer? Did someone recommend using it? It can actually do more harm than good. You kill the apps off, and they need to run so they start up again, and then use up more resources doing so. It is a cycle your apps will be in starting up, getting killed off, starting up, getting killed off, etc, etc. The only time I have used a task killer is when I have an app that is acting weird and I want it to end so I can start it back up. I would never leave it running resident.

I had the same issue.  Worked for 3 months.  Then for NO REASON battery started to drain down.  Then screen would lag,  I called Verizon, did all they told me.  Then I called Motorola directly.  One of the senior technicians remotely hooked up to my device.  It was a hardware issue.  I sent it to them to fix.  They fixed one problem but the actual one still did not work.  Sent it back, they said it was a 3rd party app.  It was no 3rd party app.  They did a factory reset and then it would not even activate.  I got a certified like new device from Verizon.  Works great.   One of the Verizon technicians told me that sometimes the SMARTACTIONS app that comes with the phone causes issues.  A certified like new can be one someone bought and returned because they changed their mind.  Not necessarily a "refurbished" phone, although it could be that as well.

The new one now started doing the same thing.  Battery drain, settings all of a sudden change, runs really hot.  The ONLY thing that I did different this time is I just started using the SMARTACTIONS.  I used it on and off for a week and now the phone is doing the same as the last one.  My guess is there is a glitch in the SMARTACTIONS.  I am calling today to get a new phone...again.  STAY AWAY from smartactions.
