Help! I'm moving to an area that does not have Verizon coverage, not some foreign country, just an area of the US where there's no coverage. And Verizon wants to charge me over $300 for early termination of my contract. There's AT&T service where I'm moving and there's Sprint service, but no Verizon. I've had a Droid Incredible for 1 1/2 years and loved it. I've never missed a bill payment on my phone, and now they want to penalize me for moving someplace where they have chosen not to provide service. I would gladly continue my Verizon service were it available, but it is not, so they are going to punish me! I've called Customer Service and they said find somebody else to take over my contract or pay the fine. I asked who else I could speak to, was given a Regional office number and nobody answers the phone! What can I do? I guess I can complain to the state Public Service Commission (and believe me, I will!)--anybody have any other ideas?

Ask Verizon for a Network Extender, it's actually a small cell tower that can get set up in your home. Someone in my neighborhood was able to get one for free, and it' works great (although I don't think they have one in 4G yet)

Thanks for the suggestion but this is not a viable solution-the nearest verizon tower is waaaaay too far away for this kind of fix. I know I shouldn't be surprised at the corporate arrogance and the lack of customer service, but I still am.

You don't need a tower nearby at all. It actually creates a tower inside your home using your high speed internet connection.

Ok, say it works inside my house (i doubt it, but for the sake of argument...). What if I want to go to work? Or the grocery store and want to use my phone? Verizon said I will have to pay roaming charges if I use the phone. Can I take this extender wih me wherever I go? Can my wife have one too to take in her car? And my daughter? Why would Verizon even need towers if everyone could carry a little mini tower with them wherever they went? Let's get real here--I appreciate the hint, but there is NO coverage where I am moving and Verizon wants to make me pay for it. That ain't right! And they won't even answer the phone number that their very own cusrtomer service gave me to talk about it. Maybe if the Public Service Commission calls them they will answer the phone, or at least return their call.

I know this isnt the point of post but I think you are in the wrong area in so many ways..
1. You have a Incredible and you posting on DROID CHARGE thread
2. This should be in a more visual area....
Now as for your situation, I understand your point somewhat but their is no guareentee of service in all areas so under that situation I see Verizons angle on the situation but hopefully a workable solution gets found..

unfortunately we all signed a contract that says verizon it doesn't guarantee service so moving to an area of no coverage isn't going to get you out of your contract. You may be able to get someone to do an assumption of liability and take over your plan though especially if you have unlimited data.

stx,
I think you are stuck between "a rock and a hard place."
Ideas: can AT&T make your phone work on their network, can you sell your phone to someone, can you get someone to take over your Verizon contract either with or without your phone included, can you find someone who would not exceed the limits of your VZ contract to use your phone until the contract is over and they would pay you whatever is the monthly VZ bill (loan them your phone)?
To VZ it's a contract between the two of you and only their "good will" can get you out of it.

FYI, as long as you're in the US, you won't have roaming charges, and VZW has a reciprocal agreement with Sprint to roam off of their network. Don't shoot the messenger---I'm just giving you options since it looks like you won't be able to get out of the contract.
