droid x not reading SD card

My droid x just popped up with a message saying that the SD card was removed... I went to settings to check the SD status and it said it was unmounted... I turned the phone off , took the card out, replaced the card and then when I turned the phone back on it says that the SD card is blank or has unsupported file system... im kinda worried because I had alot of important pictures on there that I need.  I haven't tired to load the SD card on my computer yet because I don't have an SD card reader.  Is there something I can do connecting the phone with the USB cable? Or is there something else I can do the save the pictures!

Thanks!

We want to thank the members that replied to this post. The SD Card can be replaced. Please see the following below for the contact information.

- If the phone has a SanDisk card, call SanDisk directly at 866-726-3475 or email: support@sandisk.com

- If it is not a SanDisk card, but you have a Motorola device, call Android support at 800-734-5870.

Please note, the phone must still be under the manufacturer's warranty with no liquid or physical damage and the memory card must be the original card that was included with the device.

Thank you,

You must mount it in order for the Droid to see it. Settings>SD card and Phone Storage Settings>Mount SD card. By the way, if you have your Droid connected to your computer, the Droid will not see the SD Card, however, the computer will treat it as another drive. Click on Computer and you will see your C: drive, maybe somemore letters, depending on your configuration, and a new letter. This will be your SD Card. Here, you will see everything that is on the card.

I have the same problem with my Droid X's SD card being "blank" or "unsupported file system". It just happened yesterday for no reason. I can't check my SD card on my computer (I have an iMac) as it does not have an SD card reader. I tried everything I could think of - took out the card and put it back in.

My computer (iMac) does NOT see the SD card. It did a few days ago. It previously saw the phone as 2 drives: 1 as Motorola and 2 as DCIM which was the SD card. Not now.

I tried "Settings>SD card and Phone Storage Settings>Mount SD card" (numerous times) but nothing happened, I tried to format it - nothing. I've seen several of these messages in this forum and others. I think the SD cards must be junk. Can I replace it with a better SD card? Any suggestions? Thanks.

It sounds like you got a corrupted file on your SD card. Have you downloaded an apps recently? You might try uninstalling it, if you had, and see what happens.

I too had the same thing happen three days ago for no reason.  I'm close to a large Verizon Corp. store and took the phone in there to have them check the SD card.  The C/S person I dealt with determined that the card was "corrupted" and I lost all of my current photos, about two dozen or so.  I was told that the card is "warranted for life"  He ordered a new 16Gg card because they were out of stock or he would have just replaced it then.  FedEx'ed to me in two business days.  I installed it today and was able to once again use my camera function, which was lost along with my photos when the card went bad.  I also lost one app that was saved to the card.  No big deal, but I think it's not good to have apps installed on the card for this reason?  Since this happend I have read on other forums of this occurring and nobody seems to know why or what causes it to happen?

  • On March 24, 2011 I powered up the phone and got the "NO SD CARD" message, went to the VZ store, they checked out the card and said it was bad (lost all my files and pics). They called Motorola for me, Motorola said they were out of stock for the 16gb SD card and they didn't know when new ones would be in. After fighting with Motorola customer service for two hours they sent me a 2gb SD card to shut me up. They told me they would overnight the SD card, it came 4 days later ( I guess the nights are very long in Motorola land) 2 weeks later, I got  another response telling me they still don't have a time frame when the cards will be in, they told me to "check from time to time", SD cards are available all over the internet and at retail locations but  Motorola can’t seem to get any. Then on 4-11-11 I get another e-mail instructing me that I have to send in the old SD card before they can send me the new one. I called them and asked why they didn’t ask for the old one when I requested one on 3-24-11 instead of holding up the process longer, also at that time I was told the new 16gb cards were available. They also told me once they get the old card the new one would be expedited. They got the old one 4-15-11 and when I called today (4-22-11) to find out when I was getting the new card I was told “there are none in stock”. Customer service at Motorola is THE WORST I EVER ENCOUNTERED. They don't care about the consumer. This is not a rant but a fact that Motorola DOES NOT CARE.  AVOID THEDROID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

teamrr,

I know what you are having to deal with can be frustrating.  Perhaps you can go back to the Verizon store you originally dealt with or another Corp. VZ store and calmly see if they can get a new card for you without Motorola being involved.  I know for me, that never came up, Motorola has nothing to do with the bad card.

They (VZ) determined that the SD card was "corrupt", told me that they would order a new one for me and had it sent to me in two business days. I got the card with no problem in two days, installed it and I was back in business.  They did not want or need the old card, said it was mine and I could do what I want with it.  I threw it in the trash!  Somebody is telling you a "fairy tale" and feeding you a line of {word filter avoidance}
.  Talk to the manager at the VZ store if necessary.  Good Luck.

My wife and I have identical DroidX's.  Hers has had this problem on multiple occasions.  We have performed a hard-reset on the phone on a couple of those occasions and she has started over with applications, etc which is frustrating and takes a long time.

Then one day I spoke with a VZW rep who had me remove the SD card and clean it's contacts and those in the phone with a q-tip and alcohol.  Each time upon re-inserting the card, the phone recognized it and performed normally.

I suggest you try this first.  My initial couple of calls to support did not suggest this and we even received a replacement phone and started over once before stumbling across this solution.

It might not work for you but..... Who knows.  It's worth a shot.  If it does, it's certainly more convenient than a hard reset or a replacement phone.

I had the same problem with my card and I think it has been going on from day one. I am on my forth Droid X because of it. This last time the phone messed up the tech support person agreed that it was the card (16GB) and said they'd send me another one. I waited for 4 weeks and no card. I called support again and put in the request again and got a 4GB card, really? One-quarter the size? I am not happy with that. I now have a working phone with 1/4 the storage it had before. I am keeping my fingers crossed it lasts. Oh, and I was offered an upgrade, but I love this phone so why would I need to do that? I guess I will have to get a 16GB card on my own dime.
