X2 Interface

Is there a way to change the way the apps scroll on the Droid X2?  I find the interface on the Samsung Fascinate much easier, where the Apps scroll horizontally in pages (like the home screens), and also the 4 quick-launch icons stay at the bottom of the screen (so you can quickly access the phone, etc. without going back to the home screen).  I do not like the vertical continuous scrolling on the X2, where you have to be careful not to scroll too fast and it can be difficult to stop the scrolling in just the right place.  Vertical page by page scrolling is definitely much friendlier.  Is there a way to change this, or is it locked into the design of the X2?

Also, how do I get gmail and pop3 email to both appear at the same time in the email app?  The email app only displays the "default  account", but will not display any other accounts that are set up, unless you change the "default account".  What's the point of setting up the extra accounts, if it only recognizes one?  (On the Fascinate, the gmail and pop3 accounts each show up in the email app with a different tab.)

Correction to the previous post - "Vertical" in the next to last sentence of the first paragraph should be "Horizontal".  The horizontal page by page scrolling is far superior in my opinion.

I no longer see an option to edit a message after it's posted, so I must post the correction in this manner.  Sorry for the confusion.

If you don't remember, I had already answered your question about the app drawer scrolling.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Yes, I appreciate your informative reply - that the scrolling is part of the custom user interface that Samsung provided.  I was hoping that it is possible to customize the user interface on the X2.  Is there possibly a download from the Android Market that would accomplish this?  Probably wishful thinking - huh?  With all of the complaints posted in these forums about the Fascinate, Samsung's method of scrolling the apps is far superior to the X2 in my opinion .

Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.  You've been very helpful.

Perhaps Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher?

I have to respectfully say that I really don't care for the horizontal scrolling in the app drawer of TouchWiz UI. Too Apple like for me. Especially since it doesn't automatically sort A-Z and it adds all your downloaded applications at the end. **shiver** It was the first thing to put me off to even consider the Fascinate as a potential purchase earlier this year. Based on other reviews of the Fascinate I have read, I am not alone in this assessment of the horizontal app drawer scrolling.

Generally, I don't want to be "Apple like" either.  I've always gotten a bad taste in my mouth for Apple technology - whether it be Mac computers or I-phones or whatever.  However, I still find that scrolling a page at a time is far superior to the continuous scrolling, where the screen can get away from you and not stop where you want it.  Also, it's nice to have the 4 QuickLaunch icons always on the bottom row of the screen, which will quickly take you to the home screen, the phone, camera, messages - or whatever you choose to put down there - without having to navigate elsewhere.  (Wish I could put more than 4 icons there.  I thought I saw an app once that would let you put more icons, which would scroll from left to right.  Perhaps Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher mentioned above?  I'll take a look.  Thanks for the tip.)

Regarding the A-Z sorting, you can rearrange the icons on the Fascinate but it's a little tricky and a bit of work - not really worth the effort if you want to move more than just a couple of icons.  However, I think most users would prefer having all of their downloaded apps together, and separated from all of the preloaded apps - many that we don't care to use - that were preloaded by Verizon or Samsung.  Unfortunately, my downloaded apps come last - I'd prefer that they come first - but at least they are all together and easy to find.

Hope I don't sound disrespectful.  I find it both interesting and useful to see how others feel about such issues.

Hello jmaxwell92264! I can understand your desire to change the way you scroll through your apps on your Fascinate. There is no way through the device to make this type of change. Several Community Members provide third party options. Perhaps you will be able to locate an option that fits your needs.

Thanks for the info.

Someone said that installing Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher could void my warranty?  Is that true?  Anyway, I'm still reluctant to venture that far with this - not knowing what all I'm getting into (Do I have enough technical expertise and/or patience?) or if it will be difficult to remove if it doesn't meet my expectations.

No, installing a 3rd party launcher will not void your warranty. It's like installing (or uninstalling) any other app.

The 3rd party launchers may be a little overwhelming at first, and only because there are so many options for setting up your homepages. Be sure you have some time set aside to play with all of the various options these launchers offer.

Installing a third party launcher, such as Launcher Pro, will not void your warranty. However, it will not help you when it comes to the apps drawer. The drawer still scrolls vertically. I should say that I prefer Launcher Pro over the standard Droid X launcher. It has several features that are really handy, such as showing a thumbnail of all the pages at once so you can tap the page you want to go to.
