I have brought this issue up with Verizon on numerous occasions. I would gladly up-trade my Bionic if it were possible, I think that while the question is rhetorical it still holds very true. Verizon treated their loyalest customers very poorly this time around. I expect technology to improve rapidly with time, but by developing advertising campaigns for each and purposely separate their release to disqualify the first Bionic owners from being able to trade without forking out cash is very bad business. They are even doing it again right now by improving the Razr's battery life, but instead of handling it like a defect or recall, they just released the new and improved Razr Maxx! The people at Verizon are unethical no doubt, but their network is their oil and they know it. It'll come around in the end.

prowling questionable web sites are rumored to bring you a virus.

buying a new phone is rumored to bring you failures as well.

perhaps instead of inventing new features and rewriting the entire program, developers could focus on adding features to platforms with proven performance and reliability records. the big question that follows that logic is 'are there any platforms that fit the bill?'.  i doubt it.

i have a bionic that is certified by motorola and bmw to be compatible with each other. my 2012 740i, and all other 740i's, are not compatible. bmw won't do anything. motorola won't do anything. verizon won't do anything.

i think there are too few of them, and too many of us. we are dependent on a limited number of manufacturers and carriers, with no one really doing that great a job.  at least this is true when it comes to biting the bullet and taking care of the consumer when the service or the product fails to function.

in short, yes, verizon doesn't do much because they don't have to. neither does motorola. and yet, compared to at&t with their spotty and weak coverage, verizon is, as you say, selling the oil.   like drug users, we hate the dealers, but have little in the way of options other than weaning ourselves off.   once there was a time when you left the office, did something and came back to some messages. people lived with the idea that you were not at their beckon call. (yes, its not beck and call). now, if you wish to relieve yourself and don't have your phone with you, you will likely lose a customer. perhaps we could learn to live without these little conveniences, and have less stress in the bargain.  not likely, however, it is my visit to the john that i take the time to read the news on my little tether/choke chain.

I would have traded my Bionic for a moon pie.

Fortunately, I didn't have to.

(gee, nearly 6 months since I got rid of that thing and it still vexes me...)

I HATE my Bionic!!!!  I had the Droid X for a long time and decided to upgrade last October.  This is an inferior phone and for someone like me who has always had Android I am about to switch to Apple.  Verizon keeps telling me that their is an update coming or blah, blah, blah!!!  It will not stay connected to the internet at all.  Turns itself off for no reason!!!!!

I am in the process of upgrading to the Razr or Razr Maxx.  I got the Bionic November 2011 and have loved it.  For the last month or two the data connectivity has been on and off again.  But 2 weeks ago the microphone broke and no one could hear me.  I had great customer service on the phone and received the replacement phone the next day!  Well..the replacement phone had a broken speaker and I couldn't hear anyone.  Replacement #2 arrives and the first thing I noticed was the large scratch on the screen.  Replacement #3 arrived and I had NO internet in fact I only have 2 bars to make a phone call.  I've been in 2 stores and received the absolute worst customer service ever.  Today I received replacement #4 and it wouldn't do ANYTHING!!!! I called customer service and was told to go into the store...uhmmm I was in the store! I was told that I could receive another like new certified replacement, or purchase another phone at the full price or just leave Verizon.  I couldn't believe he was actually saying this!  I am not a violent person but it was all I could do to not go postal. The way I see it is that my credit is good so go ahead and send my bill to collections because I am not paying anything!                                        What is up with these like new certifiable replacement phones?

I called customer service and after being transferred 4 times I finally got in touch with a wonderful rep. who convinced me to stay a customer...by sending me a new phone (Razr or either the Razr Maxx).  I keep reminding myself that the people working in the store have not been given the proper training to deal with the overload of complaints but it still doesn't excuse rude and down right nasty service.  Unfortunately I am stuck...not because of a contract but Verizon is the only provider with good 4G coverage in my area.  Hopefully I will get a phone that actually stays connected to it!

You obviously don't get it then.  The Razr came out just after the return period on the Bionic was over.  The Razr is a bionic with some additional features and a better form factor.  The Razr will also get ICS before the bionic.  Motorola knew all of this and made it so that those folks that would get the bionic would be screwed over.  This thread was an attempt to show Motorola and VZW that many people were unhappy with their tactics and would have waited a few more weeks to get a better handset.

Maybe a razor Maxx. Still don't like having a sealed battery sealed in the phone.

I wouldn't trade the bionic because of the lack of removable battery on the Razor.  I have an external battery charger and swap out the batteries.  I never have to have my phone on the charger and that's important for home or work.

I am very pleased with the Bionic and have had no issues.  I expect to own this phone for the next two years and if it continues to function as it has, I'll be very pleased.  Looking forward to Ice Cream Sandwich.
