WiFi issues- Dinc connecting sporadically with home network...workaround?

I had a Motorola Droid, and after the latest update it would no longer connect to my WiFi, as I was due for an upgrade, I decided to get a new HTC Incredible. I do love the phone, but it is having the same issues after an OTA update. I have reset the phone, and checked all the setting available. Sometimes the Dinc connects and I can access the web, market with speeds up to 5Mbps, 2.5 Mbps download. Other times it just hangs, and then eventually switches to 3g. Are there specific settings that need to be used on the phone or router? My network is secured with WPA. The router shows the connection with the phone, my signal strength is excellent on the phone, what's the problem? Or is this by design with the OTA update? As I said before, I had no issues prior to the OTA update.
