Sorry, not going to "go there" ...  this topic has been beaten to death already. No need to go into it again. everyone needs to do what they need to do to be happy.  Personally, I'm happy with mine - even with the few annoyances I'm having.  YMMV

You don't have to "go there" and I think I noted in my previous comments that this subject is like politics and only starts arguments.

And we all have better things to do.

Cody, is it REALLY the responsibility of the app developers? Apple never lets unapproved apps onto their phones. Another way that "open" isn't always "better".

What is more important, "unlocked" or "unusable" (referring to the 3G issue that requires a reboot to reestablish a 3G connection)?

I don't know.

@Cody- I never meant to imply that Wyldman refused to acknowledge that there is a problem. In fact I know that he's only trying to be helpful to others by illustrating a solution. I don't know what importance locked or unlocked has to me as I always stick to the official updates.

Apple has thousands more iOS apps than Android yet they still manage to make them all work. So to shift the blame to the developers is lame. I have been a Motorola smartphone user for the last six years. But I can't be buggered to assume the burden of poor quality at ANY level in the chain. Apple has shown that it is possible to promise and actually deliver uncompromising quality in a product so I cannot pretend that it is out of reach. That is why I stood in line on launch day to buy my iPad 2, sight unseen. I was certain that I would not be disappopinted, and indeed I wasn't. And I'm just as certain that when I upgrade to iOS 5 it will most certainly enhance the functionality of my iPad rather than cripple it.

btw- I am not an Apple fanboi, I'm typing this on my notebook PC. So yeah my mobile phone is a very critical device in my life and I will not be entrusting Motorola or Android with that responsibility again.

Yes it is the responsibility of the developers to make sure that their apps work with new OS changes. If developers do not check their apps, the possiblity of them using a procedure that has been deprecated is high. Depending on what might be deprecated, it would cause force close issues to memory leaks or runaway apps that would cause the phone to restart. Apple developers need to check their apps to new iOS releases too. I don't know if Apple has a procedure to check apps already in the market against new iOS deprecated procedures. If they do, they have one massive database just on that, but I doubt it.

Open is not 'better' than closed. Closed is not 'better' than open. They each have their own advantages over the other. Apples approval process makes for a more stable environment, but Android has more opens for types of phones.

It comes down to choice.

curtterp, so if the developers don't check their work, so to speak, the result is bugs and glitches. And, if apps are introduced that do just that it would SEEM that something needs to be put in place to circumvent that.

Something other than putting the onus on US, the customer. I buy a phone to use, not troubleshoot.

But, then again, if that is what "choice" is about, I suppose choosing a phone that doesn't require so much troubleshooting is the logical choice.

Your point about open vs. closed is good. And, there are those that like tinkering with their phones. Everything from chasing rogue apps to the r-word.

Yes..... if the developer puts out crap apps, that could cause all sorts of different issues. Some people program for a living, so if they do not do their best, they will lose money. People will give bad reviews, and sales will dry up. A lot of free apps, some developers think that they can live off of ads, but again, if they put out crap, or not check when the OS is updated, people will not use the apps, thus not get money from ads.

Bottom Line

Also, Google has a responsibility to release a stable OS to the manufacturers......

the manufacturers have a responsibility to release the OS with 'their' own flavor .... that works with their hardware.

and the developers have a responsibility to release a stable app that just works.

Any one of these parts fail, then we have phones that don't work to our expectations.

If you or anyone else wants to get an iPhone, hey I hope that it works out for you. Nothing worse than a phone that lets you down when you can't be let down.

I have said again and again that I don't  "want" an iphone.  I also don't want a phone that becomes the buggy and glitchy phone that my X became after both the Froyo and GB updates, for whatever, or whoever is to blame.

Again, you make good points and thanks for having an intelligent conversation without getting defensive and emotional, like so many people do.

I understand your frustration and apologize for the inconvenience. The issue you are experiencing with the phone turning off when you pull it into the wall charger is not a known issue. We may need to further troubleshoot to determine the cause if this problem.

The best option would be to visit one of stores so we can duplicate the issue. Click here to find the nearest store. If you are unable to visit one of our store you can send us a PM with your contact information and the best time to reach you. You can also tweet us @VZWSupport and we will be more then happy to assist you.

Thank you.

Thanks for everyone expressing your concerns with the Gingerbread update for this device. I have seen several different issues being brought up. There was a recent software update to address the majority of the concerns we have seen with this device. You can find a list of the benefits of the software update here. If you are having any other issues, we can address those issues individually.
