Where's the New ROM?

There was a new ROM dropped, 1.13.640.  I know because it showed up on my work Droid X (pre-release). Yet when I check for updates on my retail Droid X, it says it's up to date.  Huh?  I know that's not right.  The current ROM is the one before 640, which is 516.

Mine is showing 1.13.516 also, maybe it is still not ready to be pushed over yet, maybe we will see something soon.

Hard to believe it's not ready to be pushed when it's already on my pre-release Droid X from work!

 

Also, I saw the email for testing the ROM.  Testing was supposed to complete on 640 on July 14th.  I haven't seen one for a post-release ROM ...

If the testing is suppose to be complete on July 14, there is NO WAY it is ready to be pushed on the 16th. I would venture a guess that it would not be ready for prime time for at least a couple of weeks yet. Once testing is finished, if there were any problems reported, it takes time to check out those problems. If the problems are major, then another round of testing would take place to make sure that the problem is fixed, and that would back up an OTA release for a while longer.

 

I do not work for Verizon, but I work for a Fortune 500 company testing software. So I know a little bit about the length of time it would take to go from testing to production, but again, I do not know the procedures of Verizon after testing is completed.

 

It will be out someday.... just not as fast as you would like to see it happen, but I am sure it will happen.

Hmmm ... so they're pushing it to pre-release Droid X's, like that at work?  I suppose that makes sense; too bad though cuz I know there are tons of fixes from the relnotes.

Until yesterday, there were no Droid X's in the field... and if testing was suppose to be done by the 14th, then yes, pre-release Droid X's were the only ones out in the field for testing, thus the only ones available for normal use beta or QA testing.

 

also, I am willing to bet that Motorola has been cranking out the Droid X's and being shipped to Verizon's warehouse since the release date was announced. Those phones have been sitting dormant until yesterday, so there is no way what they could have anything installed from the time they left the factory until the users fires them up.

 

I am willing to bet that the new ROM will be rolled out just before Android 2.2 gets rolled out at the end of the summer.

So we will get the new ROM at some point........

Also remember, your main programing staff isn't working weekends.  That's just a fact of life for the industry.  So there is no way they'd push an update on Friday when it could have an "end-game" bug that pops up and runs rampant till Monday or whenever they can rush people back into the office..
