This may actually be a good thing. Depending on where you live, you will probably be ready (at least eligible) for an upgrade by the time you get 4G service.
Sprint is charging a mandatory $10/month extra "premium data" charge for every 4G-capable device, even though your device may never see a 4G signal before it is replaced!!

Your device will still work on our 3G network. You can visit our site at the link below, to sign up for an email alert for information on our 4G network.

So I just spent hundreds of dollars to get one of the best phones out there. Now I find out that 4G makes it not so great and I just wasted money and can't get the best service for an expensive (was first class) now second class phone.

Welll, let's not go looking for stakes to fall on just yet....
First, you did buy a really great phone. It does make some of the best phone calls ever known.
Second, you have a device that does work as fast as the current 3G technology will allow it to.
Next year (and later, not sooner, you just watch), it will still make really great phone calls. although it won't run on the now so-called-4G network (these days, what it is called depends upon whom you ask). But it will still run as fast as the current 3G technology will allow it to. See, they aren't going to turn off the 3G network after that other newer faster network comes online.
If you still feel badly about it, just be glad that you aren't in our business where the latest $250,000 concert speaker systems and the latest $10,000 moving lightng fixtures are introduced every 4 to 6 months.
And if none of this helps, there'a always those stakes at your disposal....
So what you you think about those native apps that can't be un-installed?......
