Although current subscribers keep unlimited, there's nothing stopping Verizon from forcing data caps when those contracts expire.

Also, it seems Verizon calculates data usage by rather creative means.

Verizon's  own My Verizon app says I used 151.58 MB, reported from their servers as of yesterday. The app shows totals a day old. Why is that?

3G Watchdog Pro says I used 47.87 MB as of a few minutes ago, as measured on the device.

Both apps measure from the 27th of the month.

How is it Verizon shows I used 3x the 3G data? Why is it that, from 6/30 - 7/4 when I was home on vacation and used WiFi for all but 12 hours, Verizon showed I had used almost 20 MB of 3G data per day?

If Verizon posts the method and rules by which they calculate data usage, I haven't been able to locate it.

Now that penalties are at stake, they'll have to start explaining themselves.

I have noticed that when you are even on wifi the data connection reconnects when curtain apps needs to connect to web because it uses the data connection on device to verify  if the user is authorized to update or download data from that device.  This may be where the discrepancy is, this is why I use Juice Defender to disable data connection completely when I want wifi only.
