First let me start by saying that I have an office job and I have not abused, misused, dropped or thrown my Droid X or the holster at any time other than the first described failure that resulted in the Droid X falling on the floor when the holster fell apart of it's own accord.
I purchased this holster new from Verizon in July 2010 when I upgraded my account and purchased my Droid X. Since I purchased this holster it fell apart in August when the holster separated from the belt clip due to the screw pulling out of the plastic on the back of the holster. Visual inspection revealed the tiny screw was very finely threaded. My impression it was poorly thought out except to the engineer that designed the holster. My cure? Super glue the holster in the tilted forward position with a liberal amount of super glue. I did not feel like returning the holster as the holster in a tilted forward position is how I normally wore it so....
Well when it fell apart the first time I thought to myself the spring on the clip that holds the phone into the holster seemed pretty strong if not too strong for the plastic clip and that the clip would probably be the next thing to fail/break. Well today on 10/20/10 my holster broke at the point where the spring presses on the clip to hold the phone into the holster. This fracture is not repairable using super glue.
I phoned Verizon and spoke to a very nice lady on the telephone. I explained that my holster had been purchased new with the Droid X and both had been purchased from Verizon. The lady verified that I had purchased the holster Part#: MOTDRDXHOL with my Droid X. Unfortunately the holster is not a warranty item and there was nothing she could do to assist me other than give me $5.00 off of a future purchase from Verizon or a $5.00 credit toward the text message charge for my account. I thanked the lady and told her I did not want a $5.00 credit toward a new item or toward my phone bill. What I wanted was a replacement holster other than the Part#: MOTDRDXHOL and/or Verizon to remove the listed holster from their website as it was a piece of crap and poorly designed.
The lady was very nice the whole conversation and stated she understood my concern however the holster was not warrantied so she was unable to replace it. No, I was not rude to the lady and yes, I thanked her for speaking with me and I told her that since Verizon did not have a place to provide feedback regarding that particular holster I would come to the Droid X forums and list my review of the holster there. So here is my post.
My summary of the holster is don't buy it. 1 out of 5 stars only because the holster is better than leaving the screen totally unprotected in a pocket or a purse for the 3 months I have had the phone. I would recommend purchasing a small Tupperware bowl and lid to keep the phone in rather than wasting your money on the holster.
Also I have had Verizon since 1998 as my service provider and this is the only negative comment I have ever made regarding the company.

Sorry you had to deal with that, I decided long time ago that those type of holders do not have a habit or lasting, I used simular holsters over the years and they app usually broke rather fast so I understand and feel where you are coming from.

My first holster also fell apart after a short period of time. I went to a kiosk in one of our local malls and bought a rather inexpensive case for it. This caused its own problems. Seems that the magnet in el Cheapo wasn't Droid X compatable, and every time I took the Droid out of it, it went right into Car Dock, which I don't have. I then went to Wirefly and bought a Droid X compatable holster.

Have you tried Dock Nothingness from the Market to resolve that problem? I use it and love it because I do have the dock but I hate the dock app, this app allows you to disable the auto dock trigger.

I've used Seido products for years. They have a few options. The one I prefer is the Innocase Surface. It has a ruber-feel plastic cover and a face-in holster. The holster has a spring loaded clip that WILL NOT let go of the phone until you want it to. There's even a "rugged" option that adds a thick rubber skin AND a hard plasic skeleton to the Innocase Surface case. IMO the best out there. Little pricey, but worth it

If it doesn't fit, force it. If it breaks, it needed fixing anyway...

No, Wildman, just got me a Droid X compatable from Wirefly and everything is working as it should be. I tried the Car Dock but did not like it and returned it. It's a complete waste as far as I'm concerned.

Wildman, got a stupid question. How do you quote what someone wrote and get them between the two lines? I probably know the answer, but really don't

Are you guys talking about the 2-piece holster where you get a face-in holster as well as a shell for the X that goes in the holster?
I have that one and so far, it is the ONLY belt-clip-style holster that I haven't broken yet. And I work in environments where onter show days or truck-loading days, the holster is steadily being bumped and hit by road cases and roadies in a hurry. The phone has NEVER been knocked out of the holster.
It has been the best phone carrier I've ever had.
Ever.
