With your PC comparison you just shot yourself in the foot. On every computer I have purchased those applications were EASILY removed through the ADD/REMOVE programs option. No such ability on the phone.
The point that several are making is, they install those applications because they have entered into an agreement with the company so that they get some moola, which allows them to reduce the subsidy prices. I go out and pay $600 plus dollars for mine (and yes, I could have upgraded at the discounted price). Why should I have those programs running in the background stealing resources - especially since I received no financial benefit from them, unlike the subsidized phones - does. I have a Droix X on my left side, and the HTC Inc on the right. The HTC with the 2.2 updated added several new programs in (VZ Navigator anyone - why can't this be downloaded from the market like other applications, or Space War, or Teeter, or My Verizon Mobile - which used to be able to be downloaded). Bloatware because they can, then they want to lock it down so that you can't removed it. Oh well, where there is a will there is a way.
Who's to say you paid $600 because of those apps, and not $900 without them? There's a lot that goes into phone development? Some of these apps are not from Verizon, T-Mobile and such. Some of them are from Google, or the cellphone manufacturer. My Nexus One which is supposed to be the least "bloatware" Android out there, and I have 7 apps I want to remove, but I can't.
Some cell manufacturers are willing to take a loss. Just like the gaming industry. You buy a PS3 under cost to develop because they know X company will pay royalties, and such to put a game on that devices. $15 per Bluray movie goes to Sony, and I believe $12 per game goes to sony. So it's in their best interest to get as many PS3's out there as they recoup the costs quickly.

You have to{edit for TOS violation} to be able to uninstall those apps.

Really, You think MOTO, Nokia, Samsung are taking a loss manufacturing these devices? It would be more accurate if you said that Verizon/ ATT / Sprint are "willing" to take a loss, but even that would be partly false.
Your "loss" is definitely their gain w/ Data Plans, service commitments, Text Plans and then the Voice plan fees those subsidized prices you paid for the phone have been well paid for before the end of a 2 year commitment. Plus the ADDED revenue from this "bloatware" That crap has not lowered the cost of your phone!!
And to then say they are like the gaming industry is also wrong. Yes, Sony and MS manufacture at a loss the first few years and rely on revenue from accessories and games and peripheral licensing and any other way to add revenue to their gaming divisions(Nintendo has always manufactured for Profit) But you also have to take into account that as the tech matures and is re-engineered, eventually they will not sell @ a loss.
PLUS, Sony, MS, and Nintendo are not purchasing and selling a device that was made by someone else, VERIZON IS!!

IF someone wanted to pay you $10,000,000 to put an app on a phone that can't be deleted would you do it? End result may be an extra $50-100 for your customers devices. I was just pointing without knowing what the deals are, how much it costed manufacturers to exactly know how much they spent on developing the device, and how much the app pays to be there we will never know exactly how much the device truly costs.
honestly if you don't like those apps wait a year {edit for TOS violation}. You have no warranty to complain about.

I have no problem with pre-installed applications. My problem is the Droid X OWNER's inability to UNINSTALL the Bloatware / Junkware / Crapware that we, as individuals, don't want to remain on OUR OWN property.
I have no intention of ever using: City ID, Skype Mobile, Facebook, VZ Navigator, Amazon MP3, Blockbuster, Latitude, Media Share, Music, Quickoffice or Social Networking.
Certain of those pre-installed apps, ALL OF THEM NOT UNINSTALLABE, keep running in the background, draining my battery for absolutely no reason other than greed on Verizon's part.
We all pay VZW over $1,000 per year for the service per line. If I don't subscribe to, or use, the unwanted apps that clutter up my screen and drain my battery, the advertisers gain nothing. VZW must wake up and stop alienating customers by not allowing basic uninstallations.

They may be "running" in the background, but I don't know that they are draining your battery. When I check settings-battery-and see what's using my battery, none of those "apps" show up. Can some others check and verify this for me? Maybe I'm not looking in the correct place. Thanks,

The owner of the device must have the option to have it perform as Google designed the Android Operating System to work... without interference from the wireless carrier. We should be able to uninstall bloatware, just as you can on a new PC.

I'm not sure battery manager is a reliable source for that info. I have skype, amazon mp3 and homerun derby 3d running and it does not show up in my battery manager. They do show up in my task killer as active tasks and certainly are running when I switch back to them.
I personally don't give 2 thoughts to those programs as I said in a separate topic that I just ignore them. But, not having the ability to uninstall apps that are freely available in market and have no value to me is just a tad annoying.
