Verizon Insurance a Scam

If you purchase verizon insurance you will not get your phone replaced.  I had a droid stolen from my vehicle and I have always carried insurance with verizon on my phones.  This is the first time I have had a claim with verizon in years.  They have not replaced my phone and it is 2 months after I had it stolen.  They said they dont have any more droids.  I am now giving the news to the Better Business Bureau.

May I make a suggestion?

I understand that you have insurance with Verizon and you are **bleep**. You have every right to be. I had use my phone insurance on several occasions and it's a pain.

The reason you are having trouble getting a Droid from the insurance company is because the phone is brand new. They only have to provide you with a reconditioned phone NOT a new one. There are very few refurbished phones in the channel and if history serves it can take up to 6 months to prime the pump.

Here is my suggestion...Try contacting your car and/or homeowners insurance company. Not to file a clam but to pick their brain. Many companies have a list of companies or contacts inside a large company like VZW. These people can find inventory that is not in the channel or has not been made "public." If you get positive information call VZW's insurance carrier, give them the information, and ask them to follow up on your behalf.

This has worked for me with VZW and several other consumer products. Your milage may vary.

You can also tweet several of VZW Twitter accounts and leave a message like...I have a problem and need your help. There is a full time staff that monitors and responds to issues such as yours. Give that a try as well.

Good luck.

Randy

Your issue is with Asurion, not VZW.  VZW is not the insurance company, Asurion is.  You can however request that Asurion upgrade to another phone based on their lack of stock on the Original Droid phone.

With any insurance policy, when it comes down to it, you have to look at your policy and the language in it for how your coverage applies to your loss.  Your policy is your contract and will state what a covered loss is and what their responsibility in the event of a covered loss.   Understanding what your policy states will help you set the correct expectations and help you to obtain coverage in case of any kind of dispute.  This applies to pretty much any kind of insurance involving first party coverage (non-liability).

This is poor logic.  If Verizon is going to sell the insurance, and sell it as if it is their product, they are on the hook as much as Asurion.

I have neighbors that have worked for Asurion and had that been presented at the time I signed up for the insurance a major red flag would have gone up and I would not have signed up.

In addition, after paying for the insurance for a year, now that I need it, I come to find out there is a $180 deductible.  Given that have fixed three iPhones myself, I NEVER would have purchased the insurance knowing there was a deductible.

THE INSURANCE IS A RIPOFF.  It is NOT what I was promised multiple times by Verizon ("It's great, you can throw you phone against the wall and they will send you a new one" "Just call them and they will send you a replacement overnight"). NEVER a word about deductible,  NEVER a word about Asurion.

According to the call agent, I was suppose to receive something from Asurion in the mail.  Given my knowledge of the company, and experience with my neighbors, I would have noticed it.  Nothing.

Verizon has been a pretty good company to deal with but, not mentioning the deductible when it is being sold is beyond the pale.
