I just bought a new Droid X from Verizon about three weeks ago and after two weeks the phone was dead due to poor workmanship from the company. Now Verizon does not want to replace it, and I get nothing but delays and excuses when it comes to get another one. I also paid 400 something for this phone and they wanted me to accept a use factory 2nd for a replacement. Verizon will screw you bad with these phones. Do not buy a Droid X they are worthless and the company will not work with you for a replacement.

You do not say what the damage is aside that the phone is DOA. so they may be within their right to refuse to replace it. Any water damage? Very easy for reps and customers to determine that by a sticker that changes color if the unit comes in contact with water.

Honestly, if they offered a refurb, take it. ALL cell companies replace phones under warranty with refurbs after thirty days. This is NOT exclusive to Verizon.

Sorry for your troubles, but you must be an exception to the rule. I've been with T-mobile, Cingular, AT&T and Verizon. Cingular was eaten up by AT&T, so my ranking (personal opinion) is Verizon is a 10, T-Mobile is a 9.5, and AT&T isn't even in the running. In other words, in the past six years that I've been with Verizon, I've always gotten the help I've needed and the best of service. If you want faulty equipment and extremely poor service, try AT&T.

Sorry to hear about your problem getting a replacement from Verizon.   About a year ago, I had problem with my "Blackberry Storm two."  Instead of going back to the local Verizon store where I purchased it, I called the Verizon number   * ("start) 611.  I explain my problem and what our local Verizon store explanation was.  They were not happy about that store response, so they arranged for me to have a brand new Storm 2 sent to me by FEDEX.  Call *611, the folks there are very helpful and would send you a replacement.

By the way I replaced my Storm 2 with my Droid X and am very happy with it.

I hear you pain, I have been with other companies too and the best service was Alltel but now Verizon has taken over and they are improving in customer service. I had to switch to Verizon because of my 4 relatives sharing my plan two needed new phones. I was forced to switch to Verizon. This came at no cost to me but I felt that I was starting over with a new company because I was an Alltel customer and was with them for years.

Back to your pain, I had the Blackberry Storm then switched to the Storm 2 and had a lot of problems with it, I was in the store every other month and they gave me refurbished phones, always a new problem. I call the *611 number and was given a choice to upgrade my phone even though I haven’t been with them for 2 years. I upgraded to the Droid X. I love it, no problems. Bottom line is … there is a lemon where ever you go, be it a relative or a car or an electronic piece of equipment, and they are out there. My husband has a Storm and never has problems.  If I had to do it again I would choose the Droid X again and again until something better comes along.

They offered a refurbished one because that’s their policy and I understand the whole spend 400 for a now refurbished phone. It sucks. But it’s better than nothing and refurbished phones have been looked over by experts ( I use that term carefully)  and you still have a warranty so if it fails then do it again. Try the * 611 number, it may help, they don’t want to lose your service and don’t want you to stand in their store complaining.

Just curious, what was the poor workmanship.  Also, what is a factory 2nd?  Are you talking refurbished?

Well first off I don't know how you can blame Verizon for "poor workmanship" when the phone is made by Motorola.

You are being very vague with your problem so I can understand why Verizon may not want to replace it.  Try calling  611 from your phone and talk to Customer Service.  They have always been very good with me when I called them.  However, you need to be more specific about your problem.  Verizon can't fix the problem if they don't know what it is exactly.

I am going to say what everyone else wanted to.

Sounds like your derped your phone and expect VZW to give you a brand new one. Never seen a phone company downright refuse to replace a phone, whether they charge you or not is a different story. I think you want a brand new phone when after you ran out of your time to get a new on, or you damaged it.

I'm at a loss as to how the OP paid $400something for the phone.  The phone new is $199.99 with instance rebate, if you pay the full price with no contract obligation it's $569.99.

And yes, all Cell phone carriers replace with refurbished at their discretion after 30 days.  Heck, some carriers will replace your phone with one they consider to be "like" or "similar" to your phone.

The way it works is that if your phone dies within 30 days, you get a brand new one. If its after 30 days, its a certified like new. Warranty comes from motorola. I would suggest call motorola directly and see what they say. Tell them you dont like their warranty policy.
