Sold a piece of trash

My first droid charge had a problem with the speaker that made it do a loud shrieking/static noise that would leave my ear in pain every 5-10 seconds when someone called.

Took it in got another one sent to me, a refurbished one. This one constantly misses text messages and phone calls (does not show up even though the other person hears it ring all the way to voicemail). I use my phone for both personal & business so this is not acceptable. I definitely can not be missing texts and calls from clients. I don't want to go spend $600 for a new phone, my contract isn't up until next January, and if I take it to the store they will just ship me another piece of garbage droid charge for me to roll the dice on.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do or how much it would cost to buyout my contract? I don't like being sold a $300 piece of garbage and be expected to give the company $100 a month on top of that.

One thing I learned is never buy Samsung. Ever.

i "think" the early termination fee is $350 minus $10/month for however many months you are into your contract. so if you signed it 12 months ago it would be $350-$120...or $230.

Tiger32kw,

Just checking' before you pay a lot to break your data plan.

Let's assume your phone came with the Froyo software.  Did you upgrade to GingerBread 2.3.6?  I  hope so.  Currently have you received the newest Over The Air FP1 upgrade?  Again I hope so.

If the above are true try these two things.

1.  Touch Settings>Call settings and check that EVERYTHING is correctly set.  Also, when I first received my Charge phone with the Froyo software I checked both Voice Privacy and Noise Reduction.  This caused incoming calls to go directly to the answering machine.  My phone did not ring.  Unchecking them fixed it.

2.  Reboot your phone THREE times in a row.  Run it, did that help?  If not try #2.

3.  Touch Settings> SD Card & phone storage and Unmount SD card.  Then remove the battery, the SD card, and the SIM card.  Leave the phone sit for 20 Minutes.  Yes leave it sit without the battery for 20 minutes.  Next install the Sim Card, the SD card, and the battery.  Re start your phone.  Touch Settings> SD Card & phone storage and RE-Mount the SD card.  Run it, if this does not work, I am fresh out-of-ideas.  At least we tried.

I have the latest gingerbread 2.3.6.

The Voice Privacy and Noise Reduction were both checked. So I unchecked those and rebooted 3x in a row, hopefully that will fix the issue. It's a hard issue to directly test unfortunately because the cases seem to be so random and unbiased (and you never know if someone called or texted). If I have more trouble I will try step 3.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. Such a frustrating phone. Have easily had more problems with it than my 3 nokias & 2 Iphones combined.

I've seen this mentioned in another thread.  I'm curious.  What does rebooting the phone three times in a row do that rebooting it only once won't do?

Actually, I don't know.  It's just that I have seen where it worked to fix problems and it is so easy to do.

After I received my FP1 update I did it myself BEFORE using the phone again and my phone still works perfectly.

Maybe it would have anyhow but I'll never know.

My husband and I both bought Droid Charges by Samsung.  No problems whatsoever with them....and they were both refurbished after slightly used.  Set up was done by the tech at the Verizon store.  Have lots of Samsung products and never had problems with any of them.  Samsung will always be tops in my book!

Totally agree with Tiger32kw. Biggest ***** phones I've ever owned.   I'm on my third phone because Verizon thinks a new phone will remedy the problems.  This particular unit locks up (freezes) so I have to reboot it at LEAST once a day.  The apps launch and drop into an infinite loop.  I'm nearing the end of my contract and I will never own a Samsung device again nor do I plan to stay with Verizon because that never resolved my problem and I had to live with this for the term of the contract.  I suspected Malware but I've installed and removed various reputable agents to check for that.  Bad application?  removed most of them making the "smart" phone effectively dumb....

Call clarity *****, data is slow and more than a few times, I was on WIFI and still transmitting on 4LTE with major coverage issues with included dropped calls and lousy reception .  All the while my iPhone 4 (not the 4S or 5) works flawlessly on a Verizon network.  The Samsung Charge is a ***** and the Verizon ***** for not doing anything to resolve my problems.

I've had 2 Droid Charges (the second being a replacement for the first). With both phones right from the beginning programs have crashed. Even programs that I didn't open. Verizon's solutions was to go into the application each time and clear the data. How ridiculous is that? Especially since it crashes multiple times per day everyday since I received the phone. I think there's something in the design of the phone that's causing the issue. Has anyone resolved the issue by rooting their phone?
