Not sure what Skypes excuse is for being clearly lazy and not researching that basic fact.
The answer is very simple and contains only 1 word: Microsoft
Skype was purchased by Microsoft. I don't know why incentive Microsoft has for making Skype work on all versions of Android.
(as everyone knows, Android is part of Google)

Skypes developers haven't changed. THey have always had poor support, even on PC.
Peopel simply aren't buying Windows Live phones, and for apparent reasons, hell even the Xbox live interface on it is quarky.

That's true.... I still don't understand why eBay(and now Microsoft) paid billions of dollars to buy Skype.
Now that Microsof owns Skype, things can only go downhill from here.

All apps aside the worst part about all this is that Apple knows and advertises that video chat is an Android downfall. Apple advertises that Facetime works on their computers, pads, and phones. I can't say that I can video chat from my Droid Charge to my Google Chrome laptop because as we all know we're waiting for updates to 2.3.? in hopes that Google talk / video chat starts working with our forward facing cameras. Overall disappointing that this seemingly simple feature is so hard to get up and running....

There is a skype/Qik video beta that the front camera works on 2.2+ not sure why it is slow to reach the market as a full version. They added a much cleaner mobile interface as well. As well as an auto receive video feature which needs to be checked off becuase the phoen auto accepts and seeign the inside of your case makes peopel hand up lol. Guess it is handy when driving (supports a flipped sideways view. But be nice if that was auto triggered in car dock mode and not on by default.
Goole video is built into gingerbread. THe problem right now in 2.4.3 betas is it still interferes with audi streamign when left on.

This is very disappointing. One reason I bought the Droid charge was the possibility of using Skype with the front facing camera (duh?)
GreenRobot wrote:Yes! Finally video chat on our Droid Charge that we might actually use... Oh wait were is the setting to switch to the Forward Facing Camera. I can see everything in front of me so I know the back camera works but Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Found it, the answer is right there in the app Description " On Android 2.2 (Froyo), only the back camera will work. This is because only devices running Android OS 2.3 or higher allow apps to access the front facing camera.". Looks like we'll be waiting even longer folks...

I just uninstalled Vtok because it doesn't work, Qik and Skype are the same without FFT support, Tango I never liked plus no video chat to PC, and finally still no video chat via Google talk / chat... 😕
Although I do find it funny that Skype claims no FFT support with 2.2 but I recall having a really good working version of Skype that did support the FFT very well when I had my Thunderbolt.

you had one, as did i. a developer tweaked and leaked a version of skype that ran flawlessly on the tbolt runing 2.2......until the last OTA that verizon pushed in July. now, as far as i know, the only way to get a working version of skype is to do what it takes to get gingerbread on you device (btw....skype video works fine with GB )
