Seriously something is wrong..

This isn't no rant about the Droid X. I have the Droid X and I love it. I've had my Droid X since August of 2010. It's my first and only Droid X, no returns. But some reason I can't open my gallery. It's been getting me really mad. I have to go to Files>than where my pictures are, either Messaging or whatever. Okay I dismount my SD card, I than go to gallery, than the gallery opens. I Mount the SD card and quickly hit gallery, it opens, than once the SD card mounts, The Gallery shuts immediately. Some other things that bother me, but this is the one that's been really aggravating me. Any Ideas? I also tried to delete some pictures but that didn't work. If this keeps up, i'm going to have to either get another phone or something :smileysad:

Here is a new method that was posted over at Android Central that also worked...

OP:   Sailmaker

Go to:
Settings >> Applications >> Manage Applications >> All tab
For each of the following, I clicked on Clear data and Clear cache: (Just clearing Gallery did not do it for me)
Gallery
Media Container Service
Media Storage
Then I restarted phone by holding down power button, clicking Power Off, then held it again to turn on and working great! It did take a few minutes for the Gallery to get all the thumbnails again the first time I started it, but it works!
I was afraid I deleted all files on SD but they are all still there. Just be patient, it will take several minutes for Gallery to repopulate.

Sounds like you have a corrupt image on your sd card and when the gallery gets to that file when it does its scan it is causing the gallery to crash, this has happened to a number of users...

Try coping folders DCIM to a desktop and then see if issue happens again, and if it doesnt then this isolated the image to that folder.

Now if this doesnt resolve issue then try coping everything off and format card and copy data back on a little at a time until you get issue to happen.

I had exactly the same situation this week. I was chatting with a friend and wanted to show him some pics of the event we were talking about. When I launched the stock GALLERY APP, it just started up and immediately went away - no errors reported, just refused to launch. So I did what Wildman suggested to you - just connected via USB and MOVED & DELETED all of my pictures from the variety of folders (DCIM, VIGNETTE, etc.). Launched Gallery and it came up (but no pics since I removed them). Then I copied specific folders back that I wanted ... working fine now.

Before going thru that try clearing the data from the gallery app, the photowidget app, and delete the .thumbnails directory in DCIM.

You can also cleariing data from media storage, but that will mean remaking any playlists, and reassigning ringtones.

It will appear as though you have no music or pics on your sd card when you first launch again, but it's just re-configuring, there is no actual data loss.
