Saving audio sent to me by text as a ringtone

All other phones I have had were able to save audio sent to me by text as a ringtone.  I have read the manual and tried various things to no avail.  Is this not possible with a Droid X???

You are able to save audio attachments from a text message as a ringtone on your Droid X.  Below I have provided you with the steps to do so.

1.  From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
2.  Touch Messaging.

3.  Touch one of the following options.

  • Universal Inbox
  • Text Messaging

4.  Touch a message.

5.  Touch and hold the attachment

6.  Touch Save audio.

7.  Press the Home button.

8.  Touch the applications tab.

9.  Touch Music.

10.  Touch the Songs tab.

11.  Touch and hold the song.
12.  Touch Use as phone ringtone.

I hope this information is helpful!

Thank you,

    1. Go to Text Messages view, threader veiw that shows the music note pic when its not opened.

    2. Press and hold on Pic

    3. Select Save from the list

    4. Now the ringer should be saved in SD/Messages folder

    5. Then you can copy file to SD Card/Media/Audio/Ringtones and you can then access the ringers through the stock menu.

Let me know if this works for you, I just sent myself one to double check..

something wildman pointed out to me is that if you don't convert/save the file as an mp3, it'll be lost when the phone is reboooted.

this was the problem i was having until the mp3 could be saved/used as music, then selected as a ringtone.
