I dont know if this will work for everyone or not,but after reading another post I to got rid of my taskkiller.
AS soon as I deleted it Froyo started installing and is up and running as I type.

Much like all of the "issues" being reported, it seems they almost certainly have to do with installed apps, and not the update itself. This is just more evidence of that. Revert to a stock Home screen before updating. I did and the install & resulting performance has been flawless.
