I just had this issue fairly recently. It was after I installed antivirus. The result was faster battery drain and a really hot battery.
Now after I fiddled with the setting for antivirus, I got it back to normal and it works like it used to and after installing Power Manager, my battery lasts longer than ever.
So if your battery is overheating, check your battery usage to see what's using it and adjust the settings. A hot battery will not charge.
