Phone freaks out when charger plugged in

When I plug in my phone directly to the charger it starts freaking out. It flips through screens on its own and doesn't respond to any screen touches. I can't stop it. When I unplug the phone, it immediately returns to normal. Tried to reboot several times. No luck. Same symptoms return. No problems when phone is charging on the docking station.

Anyone else experience this?

Thanks!

I was able to find similar reports of phone freakouts on other discussion boards. It appears to be caused by use of a non-standard USB cable or USB voltage irregularities. When I unplugged from my computer's USB jack and used the AC jack, the problem disappeared.

I have never ever heard of something like this, and would imagine it's pretty funny to watch. Either way I would ask to see if you could uninstall certain applications, restart your phone and see if it responds better. I can't really pinpoint a part that would cause this problem...But I can say that's not normal behaviour. Do you have any home replacement applications, or is it just normal?

I would suggest trying one of these few things:

  • Do a factory reset.
  • Do a battery pull.
  • Uninstall any home replacement applications or remove widgets from your screen.

If it keeps persisting, then I would say do a return/switch out.

Thanks for the quick response. Hard reboot and deleted home page apps  & widgets. Still happening. Will try factory reset after work hours.

If you are using a home replacement application then try to use the normal home screen. If you already haven't. And get back to us to let us know if the factory reset did work. If not return it immediately.

Huh, well look at that! I didn't think that it could affect the actual homescreen, however. Though I'm glad that you got your solution! I learned something :smileyhappy:

This happened to me for the first time at LAX.  I plugged in my third party usb charger into the wall and my screen shakes with every touch and then started flipping through screens.  I read the forums and it sounds like this is what happens when you use third party chargers through the AC outlet.  However, I use it with my third party car charger and laptop charger and it works fine...odd
