Opening documents sent with e-mail

Does anyone know how to open a Word or Excel document?  The phone indicates that the attachment was saved to the phone....but then can't open.

I have provided some information below that may help.

An Excel or Word document can be opened using the Quickoffice application. Once you have downloaded the Excel or Word document, open the Quickoffice application and click on the preferred file Excel (.xls) or Work (.doc).
