New Message Arrived -- but I don't really have any!

I am going batty...After I (obviously) added some apps, every time I turn on my Droid Charge, I get a voice prompt that says, "New Message Arrived".  I have checked & looked & searched, but I'm darned if I can figure out WHERE that notification is coming from!!!

I searched through the forum but haven't been able to figure out how to stop this erroneous notification from broadcasting every time I turn on my phone.

Can anyone help?  Any suggestions on where to look?

TIA,

My daughter found the solution on the Droid Forum http://www.droidforums.net/forum/samsung-droid-charge/160534-changing-notifications-sounds.html

The member said, "Found it. It was under " text-to-speech" settings...had to uncheck "driving mode" which states all incoming calls and messages will be read out loud automaticly. "

As soon as I UNCHECKED that Driving Mode setting, life was back to wonderfulness!!!!

Thank Goodness!

Dear sewlady,

Could you provide a little more information so that diagnosis might be more effective?

Do you hear the prompt after, before or instead of the "Droid" notification when the phone is turned on? What apps did you download that might have provided this prompt? When exactly does it occur (e.g., when you unlock the screen)? Do you ever hear it at any other time?

WCMack, thank you for your reply.

I hear the prompt after I turn on the phone and after I hear the "Droid" notification.  It comes after the notifications at the top of the screen that mention the "scanning" and "preparing SD card", etc.  It's after I unlock the screen.  I never hear it anytime other than after the phone has been powered-on.  I never used to get this notification.

The app that I recently installed is the Pro version of "Note Everything".

I surely appreciate your assistance (or anyone's, for that matter!)

I downloaded the free version of that app, and then power-cycled the phone.  No message.

However, when I look at the settings for the app, I notice one for "Statusbar quicknote".  I don't know exactly what that is, but you may want to disable it (if enabled) and see if that helps.  I did not want to buy the Pro version since I don't think I will use this app very much.

I also see that you can create "Voicenotes" with this app.  I wonder if the Pro version has some default or standard Voicenotes, one of which may be erroneously played when the phone is turned on.

Thanks for your reply.

I disabled that Statusbar quicknote thing -- didn't solve the problem, but I surely appreciate your trying.

Just in case anyone else happens to have this issue, the voice is a computer-generated one which says "New Message has arrived".

Thanks again.

Are there any pre-loaded or default voicenotes in the Pro version? Perhaps it's one of these.

Well, I've gone through all the options I can find but can't find anything that would generate any notification.

I'm wondering if there might be a Gmail issue.  I'm going to keep working on it.

Thanks again!
