Hi, I'm planning on canceling my att service and getting verizon to get the new droid and i was wondering before i done it, is the droid worth getting? From what i have read about it, it sounds like a good phone, but i want to hear from some people on here first to see.

I've had my new Droid for almost a week and am a heavy user.  I LOVE it.  I was using an HTC Touch Pro and it was riddled with problems such as applications launching themselves all the time.  I had to pay full retail price to get the Droid because I wasn't at a point where I could renew my previous verizon two year contract, so you know that I did my homework and wanted the Droid badly.  The Droid is incredible.  I've seen comments about the call quality being just ho hum to somewhat poor, but I am getting good call call quality, incoming and outgoing.  You'll also see complaints about the keyboard in that the keys are flat, but you know, I like the keyboard (at least it doesn't have extra characters in the middle of the QWERTY keys like the HTC Touch Pro) and once you use it enough, you get used to the keys pretty easily.  You'll also see complaints that the Droid doesn't have world wide roaming, but since I don't ever travel out of the US, I didn't care.

You can also easily get to the battery - the cover comes off nicely - yet another advantage to the iPhone.  I also like being to run multiple apps at a time such as being on a call, but then sliding to an app while on the call - yet another feature I did not have on the HTC Touch Pro.  The Droid screen is vibrant and web browsing is awesome.  There are tons of applications in the Android Market, both free and paid.  I like the lock feature on the Droid - it automatically locks when putting it in sleep mode, and it's really easy to unlock when you wake it up.  The only thing that may annoy some is that you have to unlock the Droid if it is in sleep mode when a call comes in.  I found it annoying at first, then realized why they set it up that way.  If the phone is in a leather case, or a pocket, or in a purse, and a call comes in, if the phone were unlocked, you could easily accidentally answer a call if it were bumped when you maybe you didn't want to answer the call.  So, it makes sense.

I have to admit, that the one thing that really really really irked me about the Droid was being unable to synch it with my Microsoft Outlook.  I had to put my contacts into a csv file then export the file to the PC and then import them in to GMAIL.  I am disappointed that I had to download a google calendar synch app that allows me to synch my Outlook calendar with my Gmail calendar.  And there are other small annoyances to, like no voice recorder or notes application being pre-installed.  But I went to the Android Market and found some third party apps for those, so I'm set now.

You'll have to set up an Gmail account if you didn't already have one, but that's easy.  You can also easily bring in other email accounts such as Hotmail and Comcast.  Apparently with Yahoo, though, you have to sign up with Yahoo Plus (which I hear is $20 a year?) in order to bring in Yahoo mail the Droid.

There are so many advantages to switching to Verizon - I've heard that AT&T still gets repeated complaints from its customers about dropped calls.   And Verizon has a much, much larger 3G network then AT&T.  Keep in mind though, that Verizon knows it's a good mobile service and has larger coverage than the others, so their prices for all of their services are higher than than the others.  But personally, I'm willing to pay a premium price in order to have good reliable service and a large 3G network.

Hope this helps!!  :smileywink:

I like mine, but you might want to wait a couple of weeks if you can, just so they clear out all the current stock.

That way you can get a newer production unit.  There seem to be a lot of issues with the camera focusing and making a clicking noise.

So far so good for me.  I used to have a Blackberry Storm and gave that to my wife and got the Droid.  When they say the phone is fast, they are not kidding.  Surfing the net is as quick as using a laptop(when using Wi-Fi).  I would recommend it.

I'm having a great time with mine.  No bugs or quirks yet and call quality (thanks to Verizon) is better and more consistent than with my iPhone 3GS.

The Droid definitely has a learning curve over the iPhone.  It's not as steep as Windows Mobile though.  It strikes a great balance between the two platforms.  Biggest plus?  That insane pixel packing screen.  Web browsing is so much easier thanks to the increase in pixels.

I just read something that kind of drives me away from verizon and droid. I heard that a unlimited data plan is not actually unlimited, its like 5gb or sumthin like that, does anyone know if this is true or not?? If so, im thinking about just keeping my iphone cause its completly unlimited and has no cap on it.

Yes, there's a 5GB cap.  However, it would be fairly difficult to exceed that amount of data on a mobile phone through normal usage.  Verizon more or less uses that as an indicator to see who's doing something they shouldn't be with the network.  Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

As I understand it, the only cap is with the business one, the 44.99 plan.
