My new Droid X2 is receiving 5 copies of the same text messages...

any text message that I get, i receive at least 5 copies of it. i want to know if there is a setting i can adjust to fix this or what I can do to stop this. I dont like that my phone has to go off 5 times and show the same message 5 times. Can anyone help? pleeeaaase!!

Hi Jmccoy70,

 

I understand your frustration in receiving multiple messages. Do you have any messaging applications downloaded to the device? If do, please remove them and try again to see if the same thing happens. 

 

Have you updated to the most recent software? If not, here are the steps:

 

Press Menu

Press Settings

Press About Phone 

Press System Updates

 

Also, here is a link for the update that provides the steps above, as well as the benefits. This update can resolve the issue for you.

I would also like to provide you with some additional steps, in case the above does not resolve. 

 

1.  Power cycle the device.

2.  Verify that there isn't a signature or unknown character in the signature from the sender.

3.  Verify that there isn't any text or handset restriction enabled. (depending on phone model)

4.  Check available memory.

5.  Perform a factory reset on the device.

 

About Step 5: This setting erases all data from your phone, including your Google or other email account settings, system and application data and settings, and downloaded applications. It will not erase current system software and bundled applications, or files stored on an optional installed memory card, such as music or photos. For this reason, please make sure the data on your device is backed up.

I could only imagine how aggravating that would be, receiving duplicate text messages!  There could be a couple of things driving this mishap.  First, let me ask do you have any third party text apps installed on your device?  I too had the same problem at one time, but it was due to having multiple text apps installed on my phone.  If so, remove the applications, then retest.  This should clear the issue with receiving duplicate texts.

 

If not, it may be something in the provisioning of your line could be causing the duplicates.  If this is the case, I would suggest sending me a private message so I could reset some settings on your account.  I'll send you a message and you can reply with the requested information.

I recently got the same phone and it's doing the same thing. I've reviewed my apps and do not see an alternate text app.

B2W2 and Turbo01stang if you have attempted some of the steps previously posted in regards to fixing the messaging issues and your still experiencing problems, the next step would be to speak with us. We will need to perform additional trouble-shooting.

I'm getting some random repeats on texts, but nothing like I'm seeing from some of the posters here. It's happened intermittantly for me.

I had Go SMS Pro but uninstalled it. It didn't change anything. The replicating text come from only 2 contacts that I've noticed.

A fix for the duplicate text messages is listed as part of the Gingerbread update that is rolling to the Droid X2.

I have received duplicate text messages a few times, usually from the same people and no duplicate texts from others. For example, one friend sent a text last night and it duplicated immeadiately. This morning it duplicated again.....hopefully the updte will take care of it.
