Mac with 3G mobile hotspot

I have an older Mac laptop that recognizes the hotspot signal from my Droid 2 and I can get online but its super slow and kicks me off all the time and most of the time if doesn't work at all. My husbands PC works like a dream and connects and is able to negative quickly on the internet. How can I get my computer to work with the mobile hot spot? Has anyone else had issues sing their Mac with the 3G mobile hotspot?

Hi Jen -

I don't have an older Mac to test on, so I can't be sure...

What is your security set to in the mobile hotspot app? As a test (I wouldn't want to leave it this way) try setting you security to None and see if that helps (to do this launch the mobile hotspot app, click the menu button, Click Advanced, then Wifi AP mode and from the Security list, pick none). By default I think the app ships with WPA2 enabled, which your Mac may not support, so setting it to none will see if the security setting is the problem.

If it turns out to be the problem, you can probably set it to use something like WEP, which is less secure, but still provides casual protection (a realy hacker can easily break WEP, but casual people can't just "access" it easily).

have a droid 2 global with the mobile hotspot engaged. My macbook connected fine 1 time and now it wont. The security is WEP and everytime I try to connect it says connection time out. However my netbook with windows 7 connects with no issue.
