Incredible-home, menu, back, search icons question

Are the home, menu, back and search icons supposed to be illuminated during use?

I've seen mine illuminated briefly several times (unfortunately I don't remember under what conditions) but 99% of the time they are not illuminated, i.e. dark.

I am referring to the notations just above the trackball, but below the screen. My reference to "icons" is probably incorrect and confusing.

They are lit when the screen is lit fully. Otherwise mine are off.

Is there a setting somewhere which I accidently turned the illumination off?

Mine don't light up all the time too. Sometimes they are, sometimes not.

Are they supposed to light up when on?

Mine light up inconsistently as well.  Hardware bug?

I looked for a 'Clapper" app - but couldn't find it. Thought maybe when someone around me clapped it turned them on or off. :smileyhappy:

Inconsistent here too.

I finally decided that my condition, originally as stated, was normal, @ least for this phone.

If you want to illuminate those icons just above the trackball, just place your thumb over the light sensor, which is to the left of the verizon "check" on the facer of the phone....if you look carefully, you'll see that there is a light sensor below the glass.
