I'm feeling duped

This isn't intended to be a rant, but I know I am not alone on this,

Let's start with my introduction to the X.  2 days before the release fo the X my POS LG chocolate craps out on me. I was overdue for an upgrade but had spent months convincing my fiance that a smart phone was the way to go.  So I call up verizon and talk to this guy who totally sells me on the X. I was ready to go for an incredible or original droid and he tells me about how awesome this phone is going to be and that it comes out in 2 days and if I order it on the 1st day I should get it immediately. He talks about unlimited data, hotspot, HD video, youtube uploads all this stuff and I have to admit he did a great job selling me on the X, he answered all of my questions, was extremely friendly and since he was on speaker phone he also convinced the wife  I should definitely get a Droid X.

So two days later I stay up all night waiting for the exact moment the phone shows up on the site, I figure first one in, first one out right?  Nooooooooo.  As it turns out my order wasnt actually processed until late the next evening. So the overnight shipping I paid for was worthless. Add to that it was being shipped to my work and I was expecting it just a day or two before leaving on vacation for a week I was not a happy camper. Verizon told me it would now be over a week before I got my new phone.   After a couple phone calls, and pleasantly conveying my dismay I was surprised to get  a call from my work that the phone had arrived the following monday.  A week ahead of schedule.  Score 2 for Verizon I was impressed.

I get my phone, put it together charged it etc and of course went to town figuring this thing out. For the first week I had awesome wifi access, 3g speeds were impressive and I loved the phone.  Then one day I get a message that an update is available for my phone (no not froyo) so I download the update and poof like magic all of a sudden my wifi no longer works.  Now in reading the forums here and around the web I find that i can still use wifi by changing my router settings. Well excuse me but thats not very convenient when I'm at work, or anywhere else with a public wifi connection, sure I could change my router settings at home but then I run into issues with my pc and xbox sooooooooo what good is that. - 1 verizon, then shortly after my 3g speeds start dropping taking forever to load pages etc..., follow that with every youtube or streaming video I try to watch freezing and never starting again after about 45 seconds, and the fact that it takes about 2-3 minutes just to buffer and play I am starting to wonder what gives?  -1 for verizon. Then I come on here a month and a half later to find that the only solutions verizon have offered have been 1) change router settings 2)do factory reset (loose all apps and anything thats not backed up) 3) Why do you need wifi when you have 3g....... -3 for verizon.  You see the new commercials for the wifi hotspot on the droid x?  But what you might not have seen is the post in the forum from the guy with a $250 data charge for using this feature. I am sure thats on the lowside of those that were misled and used it, -1 for verizon. The wifi is still the big one that gets me, why?  Because verizion puts out this phone, pushes it to everyone and then has the stones to complain that droid users are using exponetial amounts of data over 3g.  Really VZ?  If thats an issue then go fix the $%*#$*@ wifi!!!!!!

Dont get me wrong I like my phone, and have been impressed with its capabilities but have also been severely let down by the expectations you and your employees set from the get go and in a sense feel like I have been duped into an extra 30 bucks a month and 2 years with you.

+20 for cj98

I definitely agree w/ you. Fortunately I was able to get mine @ a store on launch day, & didn't have to deal w/ your initial fiasco on top of everything else. Though I'm definitely liking the X much better than that ($200.00) paper weight I have, they call "storm". The X even w/ the issues I've had, & having w/ it, by far blows the storm away, even when it did work correctly. However, you can't help but feel a little mislead.

I'm sure the "wanna-be forum moderators & forum police", that thing anyone who express the their opinion, of the displeasure they're have of the whole issue, are going say how wrong & impatient we are . But as I remind myself on a lot of things in life, "you've got to just consider the source".

Very well stated "cj98".

I purchased the phone @12:01 am EST on day of release.  I've run into problems as well with things here and there.  But honestly, you have to expect that with a brand new phone that has as many features packed into it.

You can call me "wannabe forum police" or even the queen of england and flip your pinky up to me all you want, but the truth of the matter is: If you are not satisfied with the phone, you should have returned it within the 30 day return period.

Back to the OP, why would your computer or xbox 360 stop working if you change your router settings?

Actually, I'm fine with the OP's post. He is certainly having issues with his phone that Verizon needs to step up and address properly. Who wouldn't want that for anyone on his position.

Now, PCW, it's the ridiculous generalizations such as "Droid X is the worst phone ever" and "forum police suck" (hey, sound familiar?) that people respond badly to. Funny, haven't heard from the "Droid X sucks" again, have we? Even after that nonsense, I hope he got his phone working properly.

crb79,

In response to ur reply. I'm sure there are going to be those that read this & throw a reputation on me, that I'm a bad guy & personally attack others here. However, that couldn't be further from the truth. What I am is just a guy is in my mid (40s) & probably what I would consider an "advanced novice' when it comes to all this new technology. The reason I put the "advance" there, is because my Dept. has gone completely computerized (reports, hydrant maint., c.e.u. for certs., etc.), so I've had no choice but to learn, by no means an expert.  I've spent the last (18) yrs. of my life in an occupation that I put the life, health, safety, & the well being of others above mine own, to mitigate their emergencies. Also, as long as I can rmbr., I have always been that way, even before getting into my occupation. That's how I was raised, you help others if u can. Further, I walk into peoples lives with the attitude of treating them as I would want someone to walk into my Mother's life & treat her. I didn't say all that because I want an "ata-boy" for it. I stated it because I want others to know I'm not a bad guy & I don't go out of my way to personally attack others. However, I won't take{word filter avoidance}
from any(1) either, if I didn't provoke it.

Please go back & reread my post. I obviously like the X, as I stated that, & this is also obvious in the fact that I did keep it past my deadline. However, as I expressed w/ "My Opinion", & was agreeing w/ cj98's, I do feel a little misled. Not to mention that I'm also a little disappointed too, having come from the storm. And you know what, maybe it's partly our fault for not reading the small print, or for believing the t.v. adds, or believing the verizon store & tech employees, or moto tech employees that gave us these dates, timeline, & promises of what the X does, & what it will do by those dates & w/ in those timeline w/ 2.2. I guess we should have just taken every single one of those as just rumors & not having any fact what so ever to them. I guess any of those people weren't official enough (in case you didn't pick up on it, this is sarcasm). Therefore, as I stated, what would be said, we're wrong for expressing our opinions of feeling duped, mislead, or however people want to refer to it.

And as far as " you have to expect that with a brand new phone that has as many features packed into it", No I don't. I've never been in IT, Software develop., or anything close to the tech. industry so I can't speak w/ any knowledge on what that takes completely. However, I'm also a certified welder, I've built drag race & stock cars from the grnd up (suspension, roll cages, etc.), & worked construction for many years too, so I do know what intricacies are involved in manufacturing, having to get the job done w/ in a time limit , both for the customer & for me, to make money, only in a different type of technology. And from what I read, watch on it, & talk to our IT Bureau @ work when there are problems w/ the equip. or network, I'm sure there is a lot of work that goes into getting devices like this to work correctly, w/ limited time to do it in.. And that there are bound to be some issues, but not this wide spread, & not w/ this much misinformation. Am I going to sit hear & say I've never had any other product that was a 1st run & didn't have problems w/ it, no. But u bet ur rrend, I've voiced my displeasure about it & got the situation straightened out in a timely manner w/ lots of communication & info on the situation (new vehicles, other electronics, etc.).

Also w/ my age I've seen lots of new technology come out over the yrs, & have used it (color t.v., remote control t.v., cable & satellite t.v., vcr, dvr, from 8 track to cassette to dvd, computers, pagers, cell phones, so on & so forth), Just as lots of others have. And again, I don't rmbr ever seeing this wide spread an issue, of problems, & this bad of customer & tech services. As I see it, & I've posted on other forums, the general public over the last (20-40) yrs. have been conditioned, taught, etc., to take that attitude, to accept mediocrity w/ every thing! Again, as far as ur statement, "No I Don't have to accept it, nor will I, & it sounds like lots of others won't either.

Rmbr. "The squeaky wheel gets the oil". Maybe if enough people express their displeasure, the "Powers to Be" will hear & finally do something about these issue. And the only way for that to happen is for people to come to the forums of these companies & put it in writing to be seen & heard.

Now w/ the fact that I've been in & out of the forums for the past (2) mns. I of course see there are those that have been lucky & have had no problems w/ their Xs, or very minimal (1s), as they have stated so on the forums. That is great, I wouldn't expect them to be coming to these forums, not having problems. However, like all of us that are having problems, but are still searching for help on utilizing all the X can do, in between the problems, they are too, & after all that's what it's about too. I understand it can get frustrating having to search through all the post to find what ur looking for And I'm not saying that all are doing it, but there are some that are. They post, Happy / Happy, Joy /Joy, I have no problems w/ mine, I don't know why you are all whining about ur's not working & no info of what's going on w/ 2.2 or any other updates to fix it. Why ur taking up so much space w/ all ur posts. Why do you keep starting new (1s) on the same topic even though there's (1) already there (even though it's, how many pages into the forum now?). I guess those of us w/ problems, our time to search for these isn't as important as those not having problems & just wanting to find out what else their X can do. I know a lot of us dealing w/ the problems w/ the X are extremely frustrated, And yes, there are a few that are posting rude stuff back @ those saying they have no problem & that is definitely not right either, even if they're taunting & being {please keep your posts courteous}. However, there are many more trashing those of us having problems & expressing our concerns, "Our Opinions". And no matter what, there's never any reason to do that & act like that towards any(1).

And the last thing, than I'm done. I see u have (300) posts here, I don't know you. I don't even think I rmbr. seeing ur user name on any of the posts I've read, & I sure did not direct my post @ u personally. However, if the shoe fits, wear it.  ur reply is precisely why I made the comments I did.

Ummmm, pcw???  what is going on with you chap?  Make a new thread instead of taking up an entire page on everyone's computer with this.

Sorry, but it's just way out there.

CJ, you have every right be be dissapointed.  Especially since you put so much into your purchase.  I have had some of the same issues here as other people.

Wait til 2.2 is officially released and then put in for warranty replacment.  As for the hotspots, marketing really does push that feature a lot and we shouldnt have to pay extra to use it.  But, there is a lot of written documentation regarding paying extra to use it.

I also used a Chocolate...worst phone i've ever owned.  But, i'm not new to Android w/ the X because i came from the original Droid.  Some of these issues /frustrations can also come from not knowing what to expect w/ android in general for some people.

Stick in there, keep calling VZW.  Don't freak about the 2.2 update being later than everyone wants it to be...that's just the way it is.

I'm guessing I hit a nerve with the part about the 30 day warranty.  Oh well, if the shoe fits you wear it.

PCW, thanks for getting my back buddy! And I dont mind you hijacking my thread with that giant post of yours.  I liked reading it...... Like you I consider myself an "advanced novice".  Although a bit younger than you :robottongue:  I  have grown up with technology at my finger tips.  (As I get older my fingers get bigger and the technology gets smaller though lol)  But I have always had a nack at picking things up and figuring them out.  That being said, and now that I have cooled off a bit since my original post. The issue I had with my orignal order was a pain and required several phone calls where no one really knew what they were talking about but that aside they did get my phone to me faster than I expected and followed up a couple weeks ago with a Tshirt and sticker nothing huge but hey it was a nice surprise. I can get over that.

Will my xbox and pc still work probably.  But my whole wireless network has always been touchy. Maybe its the linksys router but it took me about 2-3 hours one night to figure out my xbox wouldnt connect because of the router, and then how to go about fixing it (this being after a good 6 months of working fine).  So put simply, my pc, and xbox work perfectly I dont want to mess with my router settings at this point because, well I shouldnt have to.  Not to mention every wireless connection I have tried has connected, obtained an IP and then failed to pull up any pages so its not the way my network is configured its the waste of space wifi on the phone.

I am out of my 30 days so I obviously liked it enough to keep it. But being the first batch of phones to ship, and with the issues I have had where I have been able to rule out my own "Droid should do'"s   I am left wondering if I dont just have a bad phone. If it is working 100% normally well then it is what it is.  But if not, not a big deal I'll get it replaced under warranty and be happy again.
