I'm concerned about the Dec. 11 Update and the 30-day love it or leave it time frame.

Hi all, I'm wondering if I'm the only one who's concerned about this? I read a lot about people who are having the same camera focus issue that I am, where it's almost impossible to get the green corners when taking a picture. Then of course, that post will be followed by one talking about an update to take place on Dec. 11th. Here's my concern - For all of those people who got their Droids the first day or soon thereafter, if this "fix" doesn't take care of the issue, we're outside of our Love it or Leave it 30 day period. I'm wondering if I should return the phone or not. Maybe just go to the store and have them go through their Droid stock, one at a time, until we find one that works properly? I don't know, what do you guys think? Do you have confidence that this update is going to handle this issue?

Let me know what you think, I'd appreciate some input.

Thanks.

This may sound sarcastic, but take back the Droid and go to what? There really isn't anything that Verizon has (except perhaps the Touch Pro 2--and even then I simply hate WinMo devices) that is even on the same level as the Droid. Stay with the Droid, be content. Google does a good job with updating their stuff so that they can fix it for you guys.

Put it this way; You're the only bunch of people that actually have the ability to be on Android 2.0, while everyone else is on 1.6 or 1.5 firmware. It'll get fixed.

If the camera is your only issue, keep the phone you have. Do not risk getting one that doesn't allow you to use the phone feature. I would be willing to take my chances with the cruddy camera... but not with something major like the calling capabilities. I am taking mine back tomorrow and will give verizon 1 more chance to get it right before reverting back to my old phone.

I love it.  I was at the doctor and the auto shop getting my car fixed today with just the droid and it kept me amused for over 3 hours.

The more I played with it the more amazed I was.

I even hooked up the dealers wi-fi to it.... slower than the verizon connection unfortunately.

i took my first droid back to best buy a couple of days ago because of the camera and red lines. i never got the green lines.

and now i get the green lines probably 4 out of 5 times and that 5 th time is probably more my fault why i didnt get green lines

if you got time, give it a try, but i doubt that a company that could create a phone like the droid couldnt come up with a way to solve the green line problem

you know what i miss about the EnV3?  the panoramic picture taking and when it detected a smile, it took the pic automatically.

Lets be clear; Verizon doesn't create phones, they merely sell them for the phone service they provide. Giving Verizon as opposed to Motorola one more chance is a bit extreme.

Lets be honest, we all know that Motorola has an infamous reputation for creating poor quality phones (A modest nod to the CLIQ). I know I was (along with real phone experts) were completely startled to see Motorola create a good phone. But no phone is perfect not even the -gasp- dare I say it? iPhone.

All good points, but what if it's a hardware issue and not a software issue? I'm no mobile phone expert, and I won't profess to be one, but if it DOES happen to be hardware, then how is a software update going to correct it?

I also agree with Supitsmike in that Verizon doesn't have anything to top the Droid, so really, what else would I do. Just something I worry about, that's all.

I know it's a great phone and I don't deny that I love it, but owning something that costs so much that doesn't completely function just bothers me. Here's hoping that the update fixes the issue...

The bolded is the great question that everyone asked about the G1/MyTouch, and to be honest, the update helped. Not by much, though.

The underlined part I strongly agree with.

Please allow me to clarify... If the tech support guy in the store sends me out of the store with a patch or another phone, I will give that phone a chance. If it does not live up to my expectations... doing everything my past droid did PLUS not drop my calls, then I will have to return the phone. At that point, I will go back to my old phone because there are no other phones at Verizon that I am interested in.

I felt the same way and I returned my phone yesterday.

Actually when I was in the store yesterday I had the tech girl try my camera.  She acted like she had no idea that there were issues with the Droid camera.  She tried to make the green lines come on and she never could get a non-red box even taking pictures pointed directly at a banner, standing motionless, over and over click, click, click.  Sometimes it made that clunking noice and no picture.  Most times it was just red when she took the shot.. Then she fiddled with the phone for a second and then she said "look, I fixed it" and there were no corner lines at all.  She had deactivated the auto focus altogether.  Hmmm.  A "work around"....  I politely pointed out that she had just turned off the focus, not really fixed the problem.  Bless those Verizon tech people at my store for being patient with me.

So my question is, if it is hardware, I seriously doubt Verizon/Motorola will recall all the first issue Droids.  What if they put out an update that basically reduces the focus limit paramters and simply say this phone takes this (mediocre) quality of pictures.  Is that what you want out of a 5 megapixel camera?

I returned my Droid and reverted to my old trusty flip phone.   I am going to (try to) wait til February to see what happens with the smartphones and their iterations. Of course, I might get sucked into the excitement of the HTC Passion if it comes out AFTER Dec 11 also...
