I have a Driod X and I am unable to hear any of my incoming or outgoing calls. I have tried calling several people and cannot hear anything. All my alerts work......ringtones, vibrate, alarms, etc.... I have tried putting the call on speakerphone and I am still unable to hear anything.

There is 2 options that isnt covered on that thread that has worked for others....
1. Dial *228 and #1 to go through programming again to update tower information.
2. A hard reset of the device seems to always work but this should be a last resort unless you got everything backed up and open to this solution.

I'm having the same problem. My phone will ring but when I answer it's just dead air. Same when I call someone, I can't even hear it ring. The only difference is that I can hear it on speaker phone. I've checked all the settings, I've dialed *228, removed the battery, and tried just turning it off for a little while. Nothing seems to help.

I have been having the same problem for weeks now. It happens without warning and not on every call...and I am NOT pushing the mute button by mistake. I have taken out the battery many times which will fix the problem temporarily. I contacted Verizon yesterday and the tech said something about the 4G and 3G signals being changed....she had to 'reset' something, after which she told me to call *228 to re-program my phone. It worked for less than 24 hours, and today, it happened again - twice. I had to pull the battery out for a few minutes and then restart the phone. It seems to go less time fixed in-between the battery resets.
The Verizon tech said I could get a re-furbished phone - but I have read online so many problems with refurbished phones. I am hesitant to reload all the apps and settings on to another problem phone.
I've done a google search of the issue and have found MANY complaints, but NO solutions or reason for the problem. Does anyone know of the cause and/or a REAL fix to the problem??

Hello Runietunt,
Being able to hear the other party on your phone is pretty important! I'm sorry you're having this issue in the first place. I will be more than happy to provide some suggestions.
First, I would recommend removing and resinserting the battery for 10 seconds while the phone is on. Power it back on and dial *228-call and choose option 1.
If the issue persists I would put your phone in Safe Mode:
http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=34184
This will help determine if it's a 3rd Party application causing the issue. Test while in safe mode and if it still happens I would have to recommend a Hard Reset:

Please keep us updated on your progress.
Thanks,
