galaxie500fb,

I do like the X, beats the hell out of my last phone (storm). But, u definitely "Hit the nail right on the Head". No (1) would put up w/ this kind of service dealing w/ a new automobile, ur analogy is spot on. I'm right there w/ u, be a thorn in their side til they get these thing to work right, & the way they said it was supposed to begin w/. I'd be happy w/ just an update to fix the problems that would just make it work. Give us the bells & whisltes later.

(side note: do you own a galaxy 500, used to have a '67 gt fairlane / 390 c.i. yrs ago, though I had always wanted to put a 427 in it, never did. times got tuff & had sell it.)

My "X" is doing fine with 2.1.   Do I want 2.2? Sure, but I can wait.  Yes, I want flash so I can view webpages the way they were intended.

I bought my "X" on launch day with my eyes open.  I knew 2.2 was coming but I am willing to wait. I'll get it when it gets released.  I'm reminded of a sign I saw in a place of business once.  It said:

Around here we do things 3 ways;

1. Fast

2. Good

3. Cheap

Pick 2!

I remain, Patiently/Impatiently waiting for 2.2.

i too am returning my phone. according to the commerical, my hands are suppose to turn into robot hands :smileyhappy:

still sitting here and nothing yet.

edit:  it is better to wait for a complete product than a less than stellar product.  every time an update comes out, it always gets pushed back because they soon discover that there are some problems with the updates.

what would happen if the update came out as scheduled and there were major problems with it?  would you honestly tell us that you would not come back here and complain and threaten lawsuits because the update was not up to your expectations?

be patient.

My Droid will stay in my hands no matter how long 2.2 takes to come over the air.

and if  2.2 was that important on your Droid X, why didn't you wait until 2.2 was released before you bought your phone?

I am willing to bet that you will ask for a refund and CS will laugh..... and then you can take it to court, and the judge will laugh before he throws the suit out.

First, I apologize for starting this thread.  It is obvious that while some agree with the context of my reasoning, many are content to wait as long as it takes.  I do love the phone, and maybe I will wait it out also.  I am just frustrated that what many consider the top DROID out there, seems to be at the back of the line to receive the update.

I am no legal expert, but I believe when the CEO's of VZW and Motorola promised in the launch of the X that the 2.2 update would arrive during late summer, many people bought the phone understanding that it's potential would come to fruition in a short order. I will be demanding a refund on 9/23 for false advertisement.  X owners essentially have the body of a Cadillac with the engine of of a VW beetle under the hood.  I understand software takes time, but don't make promises that cannot be kept.

Have you considered reading the Droid responses to 2.2?  Would you wait a little longer if you didn't have problems like the Droid users?

Sure 2.2 may have some added features, but it doesn't take the away features.  If you read the Motorola forums the end of summer is NOT a promise nor a deadline.  They are working on it, and if you want it done better than the Droid you may have to wait a bit.  It may be Droid users are the Droid X test subjects to see what would arise on the update, and to fix them before releasing it to you.  I bet you may turn out to be a happy camper if everything went smoothly.

If it doesn't come by the 23rd it will make no difference to 85%+ of total users of the Droid X it still does what it was really advertised to do WITHOUT 2.2 update.

If 2.2 really mattered to you...  You would have not baught the device regardless what was promised.  I sure wouldn't especially when you should understand.  Low level reps CAN NOT make promises on behalf of their company without AUTHORIZATION.  I can assure you NO company will allow it.  It would always be advertised by a high level person first like a CEO or someone who is authorized by the company.

Also the update has to come from Motorola not Verizon.  So ANY employee can not make a promise or claim with regards to Motorola bringing the update.

That's like me saying Taybo8596 told me that He "promises to give $1,000,000 to the first 10 people to PM their telephone numbers".  Do you have to honor that?  No, as you gave me no authorization to make that claim on your behalf.  I would however be liable.  So in court you will LOSE to Verizon, and Motorola, but you would win against the person who made that claim(this has been in courts for a very long time with different companies).

Thanks Tidbits, As I said, I kind of regret getting this started.  Patience has not been my strong suit.  Your outline says it best.

That's people in general.  Sometimes companies try and push a product as fast as they can to meet the "demand" of customers, and at times especially with software may skip vital testing.  Sometimes by the time you would come out with a better product the other companies have all the customers locked in.  Even if you device may be better it probably won't reach the hands of customers.  It's a give and take.

Best option for customers is to relax a bit with the latest and greatest phones, and wait for someone to push out a near polished product.  It will force companies to slow down a little and do greater testing to ensure we consumers get what we want for the price we pay.
