Oh no, someone let the elephant into room. Yeah yeah, the Droid X just got Android 2.2 and now is a beast, but I am a man that is always looking for the next best thing. The Droid X is one of the few current phones that meet the specs for Android 3.0 which will is speculated to be released for the years end.So how long until I get to see people complain about not having 3.0 on their X? I am predicting many threats of lawsuits, service cancellations, boycotts, and something which involves kittens. But in the mean time we in this thread we can dream the Droid X will get yet another update in a couple of months. I am going to speculate even more and say it will coincide with iOS 4.2.

Gingerbread is and isn't the Droid X's next update. I am a bit concerned about it it will ever get the update before it goes into retirement. You can call 2.2 the last real universal Android update. The reason why its on or slated to be released to almost every existing Android device because its it doesn't require the hardware specs Google is trying to push for 3.0. Unless there is a large batch of new smartphones coming out (not Window 7 phones) between now and December, I don't see 3.0 being released on the X as a huge priority for Verizon or Motorola. Because of 2.2s flexibility and slight advantage over iOS 4.0 (Flash), putting 2.2 on your current phone lineup became a marketing tool. Hence older phones receiving the update along with current ones. From a business point of view in a world why technology becomes obsolete from week to week, they could easily leave the Droid X in its current configuration so they can focus on pushing the next big thing.

The Droid X will either get 3.0 early into the game or not at all. My opinion may be a bit skewed because I am coming from ATT where they abandon phones like they are going out of style. My last phone was a iPhone 3G, so I can see how "updates" can actually gimp your phone. While 3.0 looks like it will be fun update for the Droid X, I am not getting my hopes up just yet.

Gingerbread has not been released yet by Google... so any discussion on it being on the X is moot

It seams to me that I saw something to the effect that Gingerbread will be Android 2.5 and Honeycomb will be Android 3.0.  I can't remember if I saw it on UnWiredView.com or maybe the Android Forums..... or possibly somewhere else.

The only reason this info might be pertinent to this thread is if there is an update between 2.2 and 3.0.   A phone like the Droid X would be more likely to get 2.5 than 3.0.   I guess this would be based on when these updates were released and how long Verizon will support the "X".

In my opinion the usable lifespan of a phone might be considered 2-3 years... but the time that a phone is "supported" by a carrier would be at most 1 year. Just my opinion though.

More to come, (I'm sure)

But Arthur said, "Isn't fun the best thing to have?"  from the movie by the same name. Haha!

Are you serious mate? What else could you really need from this machine. It already has flash and can do tons of stuff some other phones can only dream of. I guess you would like it to make you toast in the morning and wipe your butt too.

Jeez, the update just came out last week; how about doing something useful like helping someone with a problem eh?

I really hate it when *********** have the same device as I do.

I am willing to bet the next update is specifically for Tabs.  Currently Android doesn't support high enough resolutions for screens larger than 800X400.  They will adjust that and add a few things that would benefit the Tabs, and that'll be the end of it.
