Not quite.  The warranty is to cover manufacturer defects like failed hardware of software crashing your phone.  This however DOES NOT require Verizon to provide updates.  Updates are a privilege, not a right.   You have 14 days to use a device to determine if it has any deal breaking flaws.  You keep it past then and you're accepting those flaws and the off-chance that and update may come to fix them.  Not to mention the OP sounded more like he was jealous that his fiancee got an update and he didn't without commenting on any other issues he was having.  As demmo86rt said, Samsung has the worst track record of updating their android devices in the US.  After owning the Fascinate, I have no plans to buy another Samsung (unless it's a Nexus).

As for this thread, it's nothing new and you could probably find hundreds of them by using the search button.  This is a PEER TO PEER forum, not somewhere to come and think that Verizon will answer you. Complaints are likely better directed at Twitter, Facebook or some other social media platform where it might actually reach someone important

How is that not quite. Hardware and software issues (crashes) same thing. How do we get this warranty. Through updates and repairs (replacements). It just so happens the major software issue fixes that are coming will have the gingerbread update with it.

You are right about the OP. I was assuming it was about having a better functioning phone. Most people wanting the gingerbread update are mainly looking for the important fixes that effect the function of the phone and the services we pay for. I could care less about gingerbread if we could just get the important fixes we have been waiting on. But its all coming as a package everyone calls Gingerbread update..

Hey folks,

How about this idea???

I wonder if this is even possible.  Go to your VZ store and have then completely re-install the current version  of the FROYO 2.2.1 software plus the latest Baseband Version i510.06 V.ee4 and Kernel version 22.6.32.9. (build number SCH-I510.EE4).

Have them do a MANUAL install and NOT an Over The Air (OTA) install.  Manual installs work MUCH better than OTA installs.

Maybe the original install of the software into your phone was faulty.  Believe me it does happen.

It's worth a try and it's better than being upset!!!  And furthermore it will not hurt your warranty.

Go for it and please let us know the results.

PS- I have always thought that possibly some original software installs to Charge phones were faulty from the Get-Go.

Might be worth a try.

WIll I lose all of my data and apps in the process?  I have no idea exactly what this phone actually backs up when it does it's backup sync at night...

Riffrafter,

I am not sure.  I will guess that anything on your SD card, such as music, photos, and Videos, will be okay but APPS you downloaded might be lost as would be your settings.

Has anyone one else re-installed the current version software?

Even though you would be installing the proper and official VZ software it probably would remove some stuff.

I wonder if we will lose all the data and APPs when we finally get the new Gingerbread 2.3.5 update???  Does anyone know?

So much action in here since my first reply, lets see if I can remember to hit all the points (some of which others may have touched on).  First off, I'll go ahead and apologize for my obvious frustration, seeing one more thread started by someone who seemed to feel that they were owed an OS upgrade just put me over the edge.  But I do want to reiterate, you were never promised an upgrade.  I've seen several mention of bug fixes and general issues with the phone.  These, yes, you are entitled to, but that does not mean you will be upgraded to Gingerbread.  Many phones receive maintenance updates to fix issues that slipped through the testing of the firmware.  I am no lover of Samsung, in fact, I will probably never buy Samsung (which really vexes me due to the GNex) because of the way they did handle the upgrades to the Galaxy line of phones.  While nobody is ever promised an upgrade, I see no reason why perfectly capable hardware shouldn't be.  However, coming to a peer to peer forum is in no way the way to get that handled, this forum is for users to help other users with issues and general how-to for their phones.  If you have a real concern about updates, you would be much better served by contacting Verizon or Samsung directly.  Just some food for thought:  Samsung builds the hardware and tailors the firmware to fit it, all Verizon does is approve the device/OS combination to run on their network.  They may be your first contact if there is a malfunction, but the OS not being the newest release is not a malfunction.  I also hold no real love for Verizon's business practices, but they really do have the best network and I absolutely despise AT&T.  I guess my point is this: while I do believe that updates SHOULD come in a timely manner as long as the device is capable of running it, that is not the real world and, your device is only guaranteed to have the OS that it came out of the box with.  If you have a problem with this, please take it up with the manufacturer.  They are the ones who can do something about it.

Oh, and brutethunder, nice nickname,,, it makes you sound real intelligent.  Actually, it's kinda growing on me, maybe I'll change my screen name.  :smileysurprised:  Maybe not :smileysad:

Here is an idea for all you "Venter's."  It may help although it's a long shot maybe 100 to 1 but it's so easy to check so here goes.

For all you folks with a Droid Charge phone that has problems you might check the following.  From your Home screen Touch Settings.  Go to the bottom of the Settings list and touch About Phone.  Now go to the bottom of the About Phone list and check to see if all your phone's specs from Build Number (at bottom of list) up to Hardware Version match the specs in the attached photo.

I suggest this because my three month old Droid Charge phone has worked perfectly since it was new...lucky me!   So my point is, was your Droid Charge delivered with this exact same set of software?  This software has worked great for me!

If yours is different:  Do not pass GO, Do not collect $200, Go directly to your closest Verizon store and get it fixed.  I suggest that you take a copy of this post with you.

BTW, mine is for sale for $1,000...JUST KIDDING.  I love it!

Considering that the only way to have a different software version than what you posted would require voiding your warranty, this may not be good advice.:smileywink: But of course anyone that did that would most likely already know that.

I suppose that a person could also choose to ignore the EE4 update and dismiss it like every hour or so if they chose to do so.

Ray999,

This has nothing to do with tooting your phone or installing an illegal version of the phone's software!!!

The VZ store would re-install the the current legal version of the software because MAYBE the original install did NOT get installed properly or completely.  The warranty would NOT be lost.

Generally speaking, a phone that had a bad install of the original software would either be bricked or be throwing lots of errors from the get go. You are correct that the phone should have those versions, but the MOST LIKELY CAUSE of the phone not having those versions is that the phone has been rooted at some point or the user has dismissed the EE4 OTA message every time that it has come up.

The whole process of loading the software image to the phone in a manufacturing environment doesn't lend itself to much error. Sure there can be software load failures due to an equipment malfunction. However those failures are probably weeded out pretty early in the process  due to the fact that the phone will either be bricked, have totally non-functional radios, or not even boot completely.

As far as the OTA to EE4 goes, there are a small percentage of devices that will fail and in doing so, brick the phone or be so obvious that a call to tech support would be warranted.
