There are 3 choices for location services: VZW, Standalone and Google. Of Standalone and Google, which is better? whare the differences? does it use up battery life to check both?

Thanks for any information.

There are differences with Standalone GPS and Google GPS. Standalone GPS is used for roaming outside of the US and when roaming in the Extended Network in the US. Google GPS is used with Google Maps and used in the US while on the VZW network. So, Google would be the better option when located within the US. Below are the details for Standalone GPS.

Standalone GPS

  • Used when off the VZW network and other select domestic roaming partners.
  • Used when traveling internationally.
  • Location information is provided by satellites only when off the VZW network and other select domestic roaming partners.
  • The time it takes for the device to receive a location while traveling internationally is over a minute.
  • Requires a line-of-sight view to the sky to receive location data. (Does not work indoors.)

I hope this information is helpful and addresses your concerns. Have a wonderful day!
