Force Verizon Droid into 1x data mode?

Is there a way to force the Verizon Droid into 1x data mode instead of switching back and forth from 3G to 1x all the time? It'd be better for the battery in some situations to have it only use 1x and stay there. Does anyone know if this is possible yet?
