It might be the battery you received because I bought a extended battery and mine will last a couple days before recharging

It's all relative to use.  I can burn thru a battery in a couple hours of use.  If you are using your phone extensively there is no real substitution for charging it.  The extended battery only adds about 10-20% capacity,  So using laymen's math; you are looking at 10-20% increase in your battery cycle.

I bought the extended battery from Verizon.  I think it was 1840mAh....  I consider myself a light to medium user... half dozen calls... (a 30+ minute call if my son calls)  a few web searches, maybe a trip to the Market and maybe 1/2 hour+ of games. (Flight director mostly)   If it's fully charged at the begining of the day, it's maybe down to 60-70% by the evening.  If I use the GPS, (which isn't often), I put the phone in the car dock and hook up the charger.  The GPS and bluetooth use lots of juice... car charger is a must!

Bottom line I find the extended battery to be a great addition to my "X". Well worth the $49.95 I paid.

It can also be digital battery monitor "confusion."

I read on some Android or tech blog that the software-based battery monitor can give inaccurate readings if a new battery of a differing capacity is installed. Your phone may be reporting the battery's completely discharged when you may, in fact, have much more juice still in reserve.

The trick to fixing it?

Charge the new battery to capacity then run it down to about 10% or so. Shut the unit off and charge to capacity. This should help reset the phone's battery meter to establish accurate battery levels.

Also:

Lithium-ion batteries retain longer lifespans if frequently charged part way. However, the battery monitor can lose its accuracy over time. Perform a nearly complete drain once a month to reset it.

Be careful not to over-discharge your battery, though. That can ruin the cell to the point it can't be revived.

Or you could have a defective battery...

I have the same extended battery as you, and I rarely drain below 30% after a fairly heavy day of use. Best money I spent on the phone. After Launcher Pro, that is.

Battery profile settings and applications you have installed and running  will have its impact on a battery even a extebded battery, I have the extended battery and I adjusted the backlight down with auto light off and nighttime saver mode selected, my unit has been lasting the full day without issue and this is with regular phine, web, email and listening to streaming radio when I would been lucky to get 6 hours out of standard battery at same use amount.

Also I do not know if this has impact but I installed apps to only activate my bluetooth and wifi when placed on charger to avoid useless drain..

I checked Verizon's website and I don't see an extended battery listed for DX

Thanks.

I did some searches online and found a battery under development that will double the capacity of the original battery. Thought it was interesting...
