My email is through bellsouth.net powered by yahoo. I receive emails but cannot respond to emails received or send new emails. Everything  I send ends up in the outbox on the Droid x. What di I need to do to get this corrected? Being able to respond to emails when not at the office was a key reason I went with this phone. Can someone help?

I've fixed yahoo accounts before where the device had to be registered with the company, is your account @yahoo.com or something else? Do you login through yahoo.com for your mail on you computer or is it another domain? you may also want to check you settings for sync. Get there by going to the home screen and pressing menu and selecting settings. select accounts and sync, verify that both auto-sync and background data are checked. then click on your account and check to make sure all the necessary boxes you need are checked as well.

You need to contact Bell South to make sure that you can send emails through your email account while on a different network. I hace Charter for my isp at home, and they do NOT allow emails to be sent through their email servers if your not on the Charter network using Outlook or simular email client. The only way I can send emails if I am out of town, is to use their web interface. They do this to cut down on spam being sent through their systems (thus reducing the load on their servers)

If you are allowed to send emails, then you need to find out the EXACT settings to put into your phones for that account.

The phrase "Powered by Yahoo" is just a customization of the IE brower. It is a registry setting that can be changed to say anything you want, or remove it all together. It does not have anything to do with Yahoo for access or emails of any sort.

Two possible solutions:

1.  Bell South probably blocks email sending from devices not part of its home system.  They may have a different SMTP address for people using a smartphone.  So instead of your outgoing setting being "smtp.bellsouth.net" it might be something like "smtp.mobile.bellsouth.net".  They should be able to give you a straightforward answer to this.  If that's the case, you can edit the outgoing server settings on your email account in the DROID.

2.  Alternatively, take the outgoing setting from your gmail account and use it for the outgoing setting for your Bell South account.  Example: "smtp.gmail.com".  If you use this solution, be sure to use your gmail password and not your Bell South password in the outgoing mail set-up.

I've been through this hassle with my Charter service.  Both solutions worked with Charter.  If you can't get a clear answer from Bell South, use your gmail smtp setting in your Bell South email setup.  That will work.  Good luck.

I has this problem fire a while too. Check your emailprogram on your pc for the outgoing mail server settings. For att for eg, I have to use an authenticated login. Make sure you use the same server name login and password and port. Then make sure you have wifi turned on. You should then be able to resupply and send. When on 3G, you probably will have to use web mail in the browser app. Or maybe use gmail to send.

I hope that is all correct and helpful.

They have instructions on their website to set up an iPhone, BB, or Droid to send and receive email. . I have been receiving and sending mail on my Droid since I picked it up in April. In fact if you look around the Incredible board, I have detailed instructions on how to set up your phone for Charter. I am sure BellSouth has settings also. They do this to cut down on spam being sent through their systems (thus reducing the load on their servers)

I will have to check this out. I didn't figure that Charter would actually come up with something for smartphones since their customer service is non existant...

Thank you for the information,
