Droid X compatibility with MS Outlook e-mail, calendar, and contacts?

Hey all,

I originally got into the Smart phone world with a Palm and have to admit that I loved the fact that i was able to stay 100% in wireless sync with my work e-mails, schedule, and contacts on Outlook.   If I added an appointment to my calendar on my palm and came back to my PC thirty minutes later it would be on my PC Outlook schedule too.   I did not have to plug it in to sync it or anything.  The IT guy at our plant set it up and did a great job.  My plant had to let him go during the slow economy times a few years back and my latest phone (the original Blackberry Storm) has been a huge let down.   It will give me my e-mails via the internet and will sync with outlook calendar and contacts if I plug it in but it cannot sync those items without a hard wire (unless of course I just did not know how to make it work).   I am decently tech savy but not to this degree....

I am elgible for a new phone in the next few weeks and my son has the new Droid X and I love a great deal of things about it, but I wanted to check in to see how friendly it sync's with MS Outlook if anyone out there who uses Outlook a ton at work could give me an update I would appreciate it.   I guess I do not anticipate it will work as flawlessly as the Palm but do not want to walk into a phone which is even more difficult to sync with Outlook then the storm.   Thanks for any feedback and suggestions you can give me.

Thanks for any comments, suggestions, or just feedback

Droid X does has the capability to do push emails from corporate emails and this sound like what you are wanting but you may have to have your IT to setup the app because it requires information that usually only the IT department has (unless they shared with you the servers access information) because it usually is secured by a firewall and requires authorization information but it should work fine for you.

I use Touchdown from Nitodesk for my work email. Its a little pricey, but it works with your companys OWA (Outlook Web Access) portal. They do have a 30 day trial that they insist that you try to make sure it will work for you before you shell out any money for the app. It syncs the Calendar, notes, tasks, emails etc.

It has a discovery feature that it will figure out what it needs to configure. All you need to provide is how you log into OWA (Username/password, website) and the program does the rest. It works very well for me.

No I am not employed by Nitrodesk. I only use the program. There was no need to ask my IT people to set anything up for me.

Give it a try, it might work as well for you too.

One day I will have to give this app a try, I am just use to configuring my device to sync without a 3rd party app but I have heard that Touchdown seems to be the best thing going to setup a corp sync process..

I have my Droid X hooked up to my work Outlook.  I now have all of my emails, contacts and calendar on my Droid.  I have only had this for a few days not and so far I love it.

HOWEVER ... I can tell you that items added to my calendar on the Droid do NOT sync back to the computer.  So it appears that it is only a oneway sync (unless I have something set wrong.)

But since I rarely add things to the phone, I can always copy them to the computer manually then erase the phone entry (because the computer syncs back to the phone creating a duplicate entry.)

X2 on the Tuchdown.

I have started using Corporate Sync now that we have 2.2 and it works fine also.

Touchdown handles new/modified appointments from my X just fine. They show up in my Outlook at work (through Exchange within 1 minute of creation
