Yea, you're right ...  it's the Camera App I'm using - Vignette ...  doesn't seem to silence the shutter even though I set it that way ...

I dont think you are right about the Droid X because they advertised the device with a mechanical shutter and I actually had a phone replaced because the tech said the shutter went bad, I really dont believe its just a sound..

Hello GDinMD, I can understand your frustration! I would suggest completing a factory reset. This does in fact resolve many issues like the ones you described. If this does not resolve the issue and  no longer under warranty, the best option would be to upgrade or purchase a replacement device.
