I was using my Droid X to take some pics since the last OTA update.
All of a sudden the shutter decided to stay closed, and when I use the camera app the picture is black.
Tried several power off/battery pulls but they didn't work.
Before I go ask for a new phone, does anyone have any suggestions or similiar stories ?
Thanks
Joe Gibbs

yea, I was going to suggest the battery pull ..
have you tried to boot into SAFE MODE? just to test it..?
Power Off
Press & Hold the Menu Button
Power up, continue holding the Menu button
After a min or 2 it should boot saying SAFE MODE in lower left corner.
test the camera app
To get out of safe mode, power off/on as usual.
Otherwise a trip to verion to have the phone replaced.

Odd thing. I can't seem to get it into safe mode. Perhaps I am holding the menu button (2nd from left on the bottom) too long.

Into safe mode. Created a small video of nothing
Rats. Guess its not due to a 3rd party app (non verizon/non stock).

Am sorta hoping that they can't give me a droid x and I get to choose something else. As long as they don't take away my unlimited data plan.
Will see what they say sometime this weekend.

@ joegibbs
I would say that Taking back the X is the best thing to Do i looked on the Moto / Droid X forums an this problem was really a big issue when the X first came out. an for many X owners the only salution for them was to return there X to the store for a new one.
Good luck to ya an hope you can get something to wear you can take Pictures again. B33

Have you tried tapping your phone lightly with a sledge hammer to jar the camera lens cover loose? Just kidding... don't hit it with any hammer.
My guess is if they don't have any "X's" to replace yours with, they will offer you a Droid X2. I don't think they will just let you choose any phone. But you never know.
Best of luck,
