where do we go to request this free manual and why dont they ship one with the phone?

Piper posted where.

Here's why...Money. Or saving money, rather. Posting the manual online allows for "a greener approach to offering instruction manuals" (gee, I almost gagged just writing that).

The real reason is saving money from not having to supply a print manual. It also allows Verizon to package the Droid X in a REALLY small box. I mean, REALLY small. When I saw the box, I seriously asked the rep if the phone was actually in there. She laughed and said that was her first question, but yes, the phone is indeed in the box. My thought was "Gee, Verizon, don't open yer shirt or yer heart will fall out".

But powering up the phone, activating it, then using it made me forget the silly little box (then, I was thinking, gee, this thing doesn't ring very loud, now does it?....Oh ,well, maybe that will be solved under the subject of my next post, which is.......(stay tuned)

About the Droid X manual. I contacted Motorola support and they were nice enough to send me tha manual for the phone. It arrived via Fed Ex and got it in three days.

I always laugh when I read posts of people slamming a particular phone for one reason or another.  There's not a phone on the market by ANY manufacturer with ANY carrier that is perfect.  Whether it be the Iphone4 or the DroidX, they ALL have a bug or two whether it be in the hardware or the software.  The issue is to buy a phone that will suit YOUR particular needs/wants.  It's all just a matter of preference and people shouldn't expect everything to be perfect.  Life isn't perfect and neither is your phone, so the sooner people stop "sweatin the small stuff", the better off we'll all be.

When you consider all that these (this) phone does, compared to 10 years ago, and all of the software and apps from different sources, all combined on one phone; it is amazing that this piece of plastic in my hand exists.

I've spent $1200 on a camcorder and $500 on a digital comera in the past. These functions on my Droid X may not be of the quality that pleases some people, but they came with the phone for under $200.

The 3G service I get most of the time blows away the dial-up that we once had to use on pc's, for those old enough to remember that.

That said, maybe I am old. I think this Droid X is a truly outstanding work of technology. It's not perfect, but what electronic device is?

I disagree with everything you posted. You must have played with settings that you didn't understand. My DROID X is amazing.  :smileymad:
