That sucks! The main reason I got the DroidX is because of the large screen so I could use VPN to operate some automation PC's at my work! I have only had this thing 5 day's now and I thought it was going to great but now two problems! (My ringtones turned to beeps today although I did get  that fixed).

So is VPN just not even a option on the Droid X?

Cisco is supposed to have a VPN app out soon.  That is the only news on VPN that I've heard.

horbanm,

You wrote "So is VPN just not even a option on the Droid X?"

That's not correct according to all of the links here:

One word, Yes! I have had the Droid X for about three months or so, and through a fluke, got an HTC Droid (un)Incredible. I am returning the HTC. The Droid X has it all over the Incredible. Phone quality is better, much less hiccupping. The only thing the Incredible had over the X is that I believe photo quality was a bit better. But the hiccupping got to me. Dropped calls (never with the X), weaker signal, duplication of all my contacts, even the ones not on Facebook. I'd erase all the duplicates and next day they reappear. Battery life...I never want to hear anyone complain about the Droid X battery. I would have to charge the Incredible at least two and sometimes three times a day. The X battery will last for 12 to 16 hours. I can not compare the Droid X to all smartphones, but I can compare it to the Droid Incredible. The Droid X wins by five lengths (horseracing lingo).

No.

For the reasons you gave.

If you already have Comcast, using Droid X hotspot doesn't make any sense.

3G only offers a tiny fraction of the bandwidth a cable internet service like Comcast has (about 1Mbps vs about 10Mbps throughput under ideal conditions).  There is also the issue with Verizon's service, like frequently dropped internet connection, 5GB per month limit, throttling speed (16KB/s) and additional charges after 5GB download usage limit and notorious overcharged billing errors.  Verizon's billing system is screwed up and erronously overcharge some customers frequently.

The only advantage to Droid X hotspot is you can take it with you pretty much anywhere you go where Verizon 3G network is available.  Roam charges may apply.

Switching from cable broadband to mobile broadband is a huge downgrade... I used to get like over 1MB/s download on cable, with 3G network you'll be luck if you ever break 100KB/s.

The only other excuse to switch to Droid X hotspot is just for the 'geek factor'... which is a just a stupid thing to do.
